My secret interlude with a trucker!!
Okay, it wasn't really a secret. I was in the car, with my husband driving. But this afternoon a trucker DID roll up next to us purposely short of the light, roll down his window, and yell down to me, "Love your bumper stickers!", giving me a big smile and a thumbs up. (We have Texas idiot, Defend America - Defeat Bush and DU.) I yelled back thanks and thought that was it -- I was astounded with that much! -- but he continued as if he couldn't contain himself. "I hate that bastard!" he shouted. So I gave him a commiserating nod and yelled, "We should impeach him!" to which the trucker agreed enthusiastically. Then he gestured to his truck. "Fuel cost $85,000 last year!" Hubby and I were floored by that. "And you know who's getting all the profits!" was my response. He grimaced: "Not us!" Then the lights changed and he said, "Well, just wanted to tell you I agree with your stickers!" We exchanged smiles and thumbs up one last time.

I'm telling you, I was STOKED after that. My only other encounter on the road happened a couple of months ago, when a car passed us on the FL turnpike and a thumbs up came out the window. But my encounter with this fellow really heartened me. I realized there must be lots of people out there who are reaching their wits end now, and are becoming angry enough to speak up. I didn't feel quite so alone afterwards. It was a wonderful experience.

2. On Air America today there were at least three military calls that said
the guys in the military, especially those in Iraq and Afghanistan, detest Bush and his policies.

9. 72% want out because they don't feel the mission can be accomplished
I was in the Navy and can't imagine being pressed into an endless fight for my life against people that hadn't attacked this country, and being stop-lossed on top of it. And then to hear Bush** insist that the end will be for future presidents to decide....I'd detest him and his policies too, more than I already do!

4. Today I saw two guys with anti-war signs
standing on the corner. They are there at least twice a week. This is in Corpus Christi, not the reddest part of Texas, but still pretty red. They have been doing this for months. One day I am going to stop and talk to them but I am usually on the wrong side of the street.

6. Do!
I'll bet both you and they will get a lot out of it. It's so exciting to make touch with like-minded people in person. In my case, I'm usually too afraid to initiate conversation. I think I just need to find my inner Jersey-loudmouth. lol

14. back atchya - You guys need to be very proud of yourselves
American citizens have endured some pretty
rough stuff in the past 6 years, and your tenacity
and diligence is inspiring.

I'm not routing for you cause I must, but rather
because I want to. American people are good people.

GO USA!
:patriot:

I SEE GOOD PEOPLE, by me.

I See Good People

My heart it beats to the drum of hope
Life hands out test sheets everyday
I always pass
While I'm walking a foot is stuck out
there I lay flat on my face
So what
I pick myself up
and stick my tongue out to the one who tried
I beat another obstacle
A panicking phone is ringing,
do this do that do it now
was it done yesterday
uhuh, yep, Ok, yes I did it,
thanks for calling
Someone is yelling at me
I listen
with a smile,
What happened, hmm, they're backtracking,
Didn't they know I'm a good person?
That's what I see, I see good people

15. I like 'Good People'!
Great poem! It reminds me of the other good person I met today, a guy who was just going back to his car parked next to ours. Nothing political. I was keeping our puppies company and he smiled and waved at me. So I let them stick their cute little faces out the window as he got into the car. You should have seen his expression when he got settled and noticed he was being watched! Very nice guy. Days like today make it all worthwhile, when I'm reminded how many good people there really are.

Thanks for sharing your words of hope and your support. And hey, don't forget that invitation to invade is still open! :)

8. I live in a blue area, so we give one another lots of thumbs up.
But it's really cool when you're in a red/conservative area and people are giving you a thumbs (not another finger) up. I usually keep a bumper sticker check. I have noticed far fewer rethug stickers lately!

12. Now that you mention it, so have I
I rarely see Bush** stickers round here anymore. The latest sticker-strewn bumper I saw was all about Jesus and praying for the end of days. That's the kind of car that gets a wide berth from me...People praying for the afterlife can do it where they aren't likely to take me with them. lol

10. $85,000??
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 01:06 AM by cynatnite
Maybe he owns a fleet of trucks.

We pay in the neighborhood of $6000 per month for fuel.

Hubby tells me that most truckers, especially the owner operators wants bush out. The administration is really hurting these guys...but, then again, who hasn't bush hurt? Very small group when I think about it.

13. Guess he could have been driving for a fleet
It was hard to hear him, but I'm sure he said $85K (which was why our jaws dropped). Didn't notice the logo if any on his truck.

18. I put down Bush and Republicans everyday on my CB radio. More
and more fellow truck drivers are siding with me. It's a lot of fun when a neo-con gets on the CB spouting how great Bush and the republican party are.. He gets torn to threads.
