Just a simple question
I keep hearing, been hearing since the beginning of this debacle..

"Saddam was told to disclose and to disarm. He didn't, so we went in, because he once again violated the U.N. resolution"

Could someone finally clear this up for me? What exactly was he supposed to disarm? and disclose. Never have been able to understand this; yet i keep hearing about it.

1. This is RW Spin
Before the war Suddam was supposed to have Weapons of Mass Destruction that could threaten the United States. He was supposed to prove that he had disarmed and discutinued his efforts to get Weapons of Mass Destruction. He would do that by disclosing to the Weapons inspectors exactly where all his illegal weapons were so they could be destroyed safely.

This proved difficult for him to do as it now appears he didn't actually have any.

Tied to this particular decption is the idea that he refused to let inspectors in - funny since he did in fact let inspectors in.

5. That's right
Saddam let the inspectors in, and when they were reporting that there were no WMDs, Bush pulled them out and said they were incompetent.

10. While most of our allies were asking Bush to let the inspectors
complete their job, they had to pull out so Bush could start his invasion.

4. He was to disclose all those weapons of mass destruction he was hiding
You know, the ones the UN inspectors could never find. He was then to give those WMDs to someone-I was never sure who. Bush wasn't trusting the UN at the time, so I'm sure he would have insisted that they be given to the invading US troops.

9. Someone...anyone...
I just want someone, anyone, any voice from anywhere...to just 'once', ask him what disclosures he was demanding. I would love to hear this answer. I keep hearing this and I keep waiting.. while chanting...'Ask him', 'ask him', 'ask him'..

6. Actually he did disclose what had happened to his WMD.
Just before the invasion--probably late '02 or early '03--he turned over thousands of pages of documents detailing how, when and where the chem & bio weapons were destroyed. There were some unaccounted for because of poor record keeping but for the most part the information was there.

Bush said flatly that this was a ruse and he was simply trying to distract from the hidden WMD by trying to bury the inspectors in paper.

In other words, he gave them too much information.

8. The biggest lie in the statement: that WE had the RIGHT to go in.
That's the biggest lie in any of the RW propaganda; That we had the RIGHT to make war on someone who had not militarily attacked us first. Defined as AGGRESSIVE WAR and a WAR CRIME by the Nuremburg Protocols.
