Hell yes I vote based on moral values issues.
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 11:16 AM by Pacifist Patriot
And these are NOT my values!

Iraq

Abu Graib

Florida

North Korea

Cuba

Washington, DC

California

American beach

New York

New Orleans

Arizona

U.S.

Texas

Too many voting booths across America

So if you dumbass Freepers dare to ask me snidely yet again if I make decisions based on "moral values," You bet I do!

4. LOL! Thanks.
Not yet, but I will some day. Just waiting for the kids to age a bit.

Actually, I'm sure they've got it already.

7. I see...
you're in Georgia. You have my sympathies. I hardly recognize my birth state anymore.

Yep, I've got three tough boys and if I'm any judge of aptitude and interest, my eldest will be my campaign Treasurer, the middle child will be the social calendar coordinator and the youngest will be my press secretary. Not bad considering he's not yet three. ;-)

6. It's a shame that the Democrats in the Beltway seem to love those things
If only the Beltway Dems had some morality too. Instead they have joined with the Repugniks in loving those things.

9. Which is exactly why even though I'm fairly middle ground when
it comes to political and fiscal leanings, I can't in good conscience vote anything but democrat until we get the corrupt and the fundies out of control of the republican party.
Which I don't see happening in my lifetime. Congratulations religious and power-hungry whackos, you've made me a democrat for life. :)

12. They don't really have any values.

Their values shift around depending on what benefits them personally. One minute they'll support one position and the next it's opposite, without even noticing the difference.

11. K&R

I think I'd be likely to ask them if they make decisions at all. Mostly it looks like they want other people to make their decisions for them.

16. As do I
There are those - esp. libertarian types - who would like us all to run away from morality.

You've got the absolutists on the one side and the nihilists on the other - but in between there are those who have a sense of justice and what is right and what isn't.

If it wasn't for morality - I don't think we would have a case at all. How could we say - that Bush* should be doing any differently? In fact - Bush* might be a nihilist too (I don't necessarily "buy" his belief in "God").

"Nihilists generally believe all of the following: God doesn't exist, traditional morality is false, and secular ethics are impossible; therefore, life has no meaning, and no action is preferable to any other."

18. Check out the great new book The Left Hand of God- Taking Back our Country
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 09:31 PM by JudyM
from the Religious Right. Just came out in Feb. Talks about *our* values in a counterpoint discussion to the twisted angry punitive religious right. The book sets out the platform for this relatively new, growing movement being championed by the Network of Spiritual Progressives, who are also having their 1st national Conference on Spiritual Activism in DC this May.

http://www.tikkun.org/community/spiritual_activism_conference/

I saw him speak recently and as of last week I'm volunteering to help get this movement noticed. Cindy Sheehan, Richard Gere, Gandhi's grandson, many others are already on board.

More here: http://www.spiritualprogressives.org/

Looking (and grateful!) for anyone who's interested in helping in any way.
