Dad Accused Of Using Shock Collar On Kids
Dad Accused Of Using Shock Collar On Kids

POSTED: 10:52 pm EST March 20, 2006
UPDATED: 10:59 pm EST March 20, 2006

A 45-year-old man in Cedar City, Utah, is accused of using an electric dog collar to discipline his two children, according to a Local 6 News report.

Police said Scott Dover put dog shock collars on his 6-year-old twin boys and when they would get out of hand, he would give them a jolt.

"It was strange," Cedar City police Sgt. Jerry Womach said. "I've never heard of anything like that before. I've seen lots of worse child abuse. It was just so strange."

The collars were remote controlled and delivered a low-electrical charge.

"It's normally used to train hunting dogs," Womach said.

Dover was jailed and faces second-degree felony child abuse charges.

The children remain at home with their mother.

3. I am starting to think you are as bad as I am
ie, you never sleep :)

My wife is flying out in the AM and I need to get her up at 5am, plus I have work to do from home. So, as usual, I am staying up and posting here.

Sleep is for people who don't know what DU is :)

4. I actually just started a swing shift job...
Got home at about 11:15. After working day shift for years, my whole schedule's gone a little wonky.

It's about time for me to hit the hay though. I can feel myself winding down.

5. Perhaps we will see how this is abusive to any animal as well?
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 04:35 AM by shance
Training and conditioning any person or any creature takes time, love, attention and investment.

This is where Americans seemingly have becomed too conditioned or brainwashed in our own immediate need for gratification, when the only legitimate and authentic remedy is love, time and investment, no matter how we want things to happen faster and quicker.

The best things in life will simply always take our time and effort. That is the power of life and of love.

To initiate shock, pain or fear in anyone, will then certainly in response create fear and reaction, but it has never trained anyone without flawed error in ANY category or classification.

The most fireproof way to influence any creature is with love and consistency.

Why? Probably because it builds trust and respect. Im not sure.

And it takes investment of both parties. There is no way to falsely manufacture it, because it takes effort, and again, time, by at least and more preferably, two willing parties.

You can instruct (or more accurately destruct) by abuse, sadism and fear, but the only way to create unfailing loyalty is through love, value and investment.

That seems to only be created if it has been produced previously from learned situations. Fear and abuse will always be trumped by love and acceptance however. Fear can cower people and individuals but only for a period of time.

That is why something, or individual or group will supercede this Administration at some point if they don't ultimately resign or they don't retreat in their aggression.

Cruelty never wins the last battle, however it does perpetuate cruelty until things implode. Negativity creates negativity unless there are those who reveal a fierce compassion.

Abusive behavior and disconnected cruelty will perpetuate conditions of further cruelty and oppression of an animal of any kind. That is why love, trust and compassion are so vital with every creature and organism. Balance is a necessary ingredient to our ecosystem.

Overzealous oppression however makes one subservient and kills any authentic creativity, and is the core of destruction of any continuation of any organism's growth or evolvement. It will also suppress any 'spirit' because it never inspires the true love that organisms ultimately desire.

Humans and any animals know this instinctively, and will continue to long for authenticity that might have been extinguished by negative actions implemented. That is why creatures are so addicted to fantasy, however that leaves them ultimately empty handed as well. Love, the act of true enjoyment and appreciation, can never, ever be superceded or trumped by fear or oppression, no matter how technologically advanced we become. Technology, no matter how those detached from the spirit try, through addiction or through fear, will never trump true invested appreciation and love.

13. HELLO!!!! Thank you! I believe these collars are abusive to animals.
And shouldn't be used. If you can't use them on yourself or your family why would you use them on your pet who is also a part of the family.

10. I thought this was standard practice.
Doesn't everyone use shock collars to discipline their children?

14. I always wanted a remote control for the kids myself. Nothing
that would hurt them, but wouldn't it be great to have a volume control or a mute button sometimes? If you didn't like what they were doing, just change the channel and they would immediately stop and go do something else. Bedtime? No problem, just turn them off.

:-)
