Leaving tomorrow for St. Petersburg Russia and Baltics.
Keep the homefires burning for me at DU!

Will be back in one month, hopefully with interesting information from that part of the world...and any advice you can give me is greatly appreciated.

1. Hope you enjoy Lithuania
My heritage. Pack some "tp" and get your veggies in tonight. I hear they don't serve much beyond potatoes. So, try to find out where you can get good veggies. Lithunaians are big on meat 'n tater dishes.

13. Oh, I wish! My trip goes through Estonia and ends in Riga.
But I will be staying an extra week with family in Latvia, and maybe we can take a day to go down in Lithuania. If so, I'll let you know!

partake. But thanks for the info. :)

p.s. Do you suppose Chimpy could find Latvia on a map? Never mind, I know the answer to that one . . .

I have been to St. Petersburg but not the others so I will be interested in hearing about them.

My advice? Sleep lots on the plane. I did not remember the first 3 days I was there.

Edit to add thanks for the info on the tour group. I am looking at Peru sometime in the next couple of years, it is a great site.

18. Thank You! I hate jet lag too.
I'm really looking forward to St. Pete. It has been snowing there for the last three months, and coming from the Florida Keys, I will have a lot of cold and snow to deal with. But I'm very excited!

28. Sorry for jumpin' in on your thread like this. . .
I just thought the juxtaposition -- you to St. Petersburg, me to Bakersfield -- was somewhat amusing (especially if you know how much of an armpit a Central California oil town like Bakersfield is).

Have a great time in some very interesting places. I know I'll be envious, kicking around the chemical-filled slews and saline-encrusted fields of the South-Central San Joaquin Valley.

24. Two digital cameras and nineteen days worth of batteries.
And a warning to all of my neighbors that they WILL be expected to sit and watch every last picture on the CDs as soon as I get home.

Suddenly there is an influx of FOR SALE signs in my neighborhood. ??????

so it is part of the tour. But of course, now that I am going, I'm getting myself psyched about it.

17. I've been to St. Petersburg, Russia. A cruise from Moscow to St. Pete.
The food was pretty bad. Buy bread and cheese. Be careful of the subway system because you can get easily lost. I don't know what money they use these days, but my 500 one dollar bills came in awfully handy. The Hermitage is incredible. The beer is good. The vodka is awesome. It's not true that they all speak English. Have a great trip.
