Real Time with Bill Maher last night was a keeper.
I did a DU search but didn't find a discussion link. Did anyone else see the show? Richard Belzer, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), and writer Michele Mitchell practically got into a fistfight during the show. A think of beauty because it highlighted the total immersion of Bushbot Kool Aid drinking the repugs are via Ros-Lehtinen. Belzer handed her her ass countless times. One time she started whining about Clinton and Belzer practically took her head off.

Then as bonus segments we had, via satellite, REM's Michael Stipe, and television anchor Lou Dobbs. Now if Maher could quit being such an apologists to the "poor" repug for getting a beating each week because they are so stupid. If they are willfully stupid then they deserved getting a beating each week on that show.

If this is a dupe, sorry, point me in the right direction, I would like to see if everyone enjoyed the show as much as I did. Last night's show should be required viewing for all the people whose heads explode everytime they are faced with anything but total loyalty to Chucklenuts. That it was aired on a weekend that HBO is free is a thing of beauty. People who wouldn't ordinarily get a chance to see Real Time got a face full of "truthiness."

7. I stole Chucklenuts from someone else so feel free to steal it
I think it describes him to a tee. The show was great. They hit all the hot buttons last night. I don't think the video or the synopsis of last night's show is on his web site yet but you can check out past comments and New Rules here: http://www.hbo.com/billmaher/

2. Best Maher show in a long time -- His final rant was superb
That Florida Repug sounded like a jukebox full of talking points.

When Ros-Lehtinen compared Iraq War to WWII, Belzer jumped right in with Maher chiming in about it being a bogus analogy. Ros-Lehtinen used the Repug angry face and voice and tried to shame Bill with words that inferenced not being patriotic during a war time. She is a fucking piece of shit. I have a difficult time understanding any woman who would want to shill for an administration that wishes all women to be subservient. Perhaps Ros-Lehtinen believes that because she is an elected Representative, she is above being viewed as a woman.

Also found it obtuse and disturbing that Ros-Lehtinen could talk the Repug line, but laughed heartily at the Operation Zero hemmoroidal cream joke.

6. Maher was a prick for jumping all over Belzer's ass
Just because he stood up to the loud mouth Bush Propagandist, who doesn't want anyone to speak about the truth of the matter. You could tell the Republicans are tanking, the Bush Propagandist was less over bearing.

Did Maher have to promise the old hag that nobody would call her on her bullshit she was spewing and get irate back at her?

10. Maher might have tried to curb Belzer but he was unsuccessful.
Belzer owned that crazy repug's ass from start to finish. Michele Mitchell did a wonderful job of refuting the Dumbass Repug Hag every time she said, "I've been to Iraq" as if that gave her more insight than Mitchell who has reported from there. She honestly thinks that visiting in a Congressional junket is the same thing as serving and fighting over there. She saw exactly what Chucklenuts and Generals wanted her to see. Just wish that Mitchell had pointed that little fact out to her.

12. I Think Maher Feels He Has To Keep His Non-Reich Propagandist Guests
somewhat reined in or he would never get any Kool-aid dispensers 'for balance' to book (how this would be a bad thing is beyond me, but its not my show).

That said, Belzer's response was much less animated than mine would have been, having to sit next to that troll. My patience with Reich sympathizers is pretty much at an end.

The exchange:

Belzer: "You think everyone over there's a college graduate? They're 19 and 20 year old kids who couldn't get a job."

Kool-Aid Dispenser: (Dismissively) "Oh, you know because you've been there and you've talked to them".

Belzer: (Animated) "What, I don't fucking read? Don't . . don't do that".

Maher: "Wait . . wait . . don't do that . ."

9. Yep, it was a good one..
His show has been kinda bland for the past couple of weeks, but last night was a great episode. Belzer has always been a great guest, he can just about carry a show himself. I felt the interview with Stipe went on a little long, but outside of that it was a great show. Good to see too, because I was a little worried that Maher was becoming a bit too stale.

11. I can't remember who said it
but Ileana was talking about who Afghanistan is wonderful because the girls are back in school. Michele Mitchell explained to her in words of one syllable that the Taliban were burning girls' schools, intimidating families whose girls went to school and were massing for a big attack later in the spring. Ileana looked put out and said "well when I was in Jalalabad let me tell you how it was." and someone, either Maher or Belzer chimed in with - yeah everything's up to date in Jalalabad. The idiot woman had no clue that everything she saw there was like a Potemkin village. Women meeting with tribal chiefs and getting things done - the minute she left the area I wager the meeting turned right around to the tribal chiefs telling the women what they wanted for dinner. The whole show was good. I do wish that Maher had let Belzer go when he was correcting Ros-Lehtinen's kool-aid remarks. But I guess in order to get her to come on, he had to promise to keep her safe from the big, nasty, mean liberals.

14. Yes, I just resubscribed to HBO this week, and it was a good evening:
first episode of the Sopranos (okay, better late than never), Bill Maher, and then, just for fun, a showing of Heathers.

Belzer was great, and Ross-Lehtinen exemplified the desperate front that Republicanites have to put up to promote their Chief Idiot.

15. two comments
Someone a little more informed should have made.

1. Jack Abramoff's clients were the ones ripped off. That they gave to democrats means nothing. Look at the
differences in amounts given to Repubs and Dems before and after Abramoff.

2. Does anybody think that when congressmen are being toured around Iraq or Afghanistan, they are seeing the real
Iraq or Afghanistan.

"Congressman, this is where the school was burned down, and 30 kids were killed".
"These are the massive poppy fields where opium is made"

Yah, right.

16. Belzer was wonderful. Bill didn't reign in the Wingnut very well.
She was very desperate and very stoopid, so that could turn out to be a good thing.
