1. My area had one about 2 years ...
The screen just had Amber Alert and a prerecorded voice, almost mechanical sounding, reported the incident and gave information. The only problem was it stay on for about 30 minutes straight on all the channels, looping the recording.

They should have done that for about five minutes, they had a runner about it after that.

2. This happened on our cable in Atlanta

just the fact that there was an Amber alert but no details - it was infuriating! I always thought "What if it was my daughter?" Gee whiz, thanks alot!
I never did find out where to go for the details...

on edit: We now live in Southern Illinois and they have a great "Amber Alert" system here - I think it's just the difference in cable companies.

3. I think we had one in Tallahassee a while back
They do the same thing when there is any natual disaster issue--a tornado for instance. Scares me because they just sort of break into the broadcast with loudness and a mechanical voice and some horror horns left over from the Emergency Broadcasting System.

4. we had one with electronic signs up in traffic, mostly about which car
to look for - make, color, license plate number, etc. I don't remember details about the kid, but maybe there were. I just remember looking for that car, LOL.

5. They usually give out details...
I'd complain to the imbecile at the cable company putting out a no-info red herring like this.

and why 'amber alert' anyway? Amber is a color. Or why couldn't they choose a "Jacob alert" as Jacob Wetterling's kidnapping was prominent. Because his mommie is a Dem, perhaps? Nope. Because we don't have any "Walsh alerts" either... discounting his own prosperous TV show, of course... I do miss the days when altruism seemed more genuine.

The Origin of the Amber Plan
The AMBER Plan was created in 1996 as a powerful legacy to 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, a bright little girl who was kidnapped and brutally murdered while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas. The tragedy shocked and outraged the entire community. Residents contacted radio stations in the Dallas area and suggested they broadcast special “alerts” over the airwaves so that they could help prevent such incidents in the future.
