Senator Salazar Gives Me History Lesson - re: Censure
Thank you for contacting me regarding Senator Feingold's resolution to censure the President concerning warrantless wiretaps.

I believe that warrantless spying on Americans is extremely serious. I also believe that Congress must insist on collecting all of the facts about any warrantless spying program and thoroughly accounting for precisely what actions were taken by the Administration before considering other action.

Censure of an American president has occurred only once in our history, back in the early days of our Republic, when Andrew Jackson was President.

Thank you again for writing.

Sincerely,

Ken Salazar
United States Senator

1. So is he for it or against it?
The fact that it's happened only once is hardly conclusive, or relevant to his position in this situation.

2. Aside from the pointless Jackson reference . . .
(which would have made at least some sense if he'd continued the thought -- "and so such things are not to be taken lightly.")

-- this is not such a terrible response. Is Salazar your Senator? Then you know the very conservative background radiation in Colorado he emerged from, and to which he must pay a certain amount of deference.

Frankly, when he was elected, I thought they'd given the seat to a crypto-Republican, just an angstrom unit to the left of Pete Coors. He's now tracking closer to the center (as I define it) than I expected him to.

and as a delegate in 04 he had to get up on stage and "promise" that he would not flip to a republican once elected like "Nightmare Campbell" did.

Salazar's membership into "the gang of 14" has benefited only the GOP when it comes to judicial matters.

I will have a hard time voting for him again.

8. A civil war to end slavery has only happened once before in our history
Way back when, in, like, some other century.

So if some state were to reinstitute slavery, we should do nothing really, like, strong and violent to end it. We should collect all the facts and keep our heads down till the public outcry and outrage die down. Because anything else would be such a serious step.

Thank you again for writing.
