Ill. Republicans Seem to Be Struggling

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - These are tough times for the Illinois Republican Party.

Their former leader is on trial on corruption charges. The biggest name in the party decided not to run for governor. The people who did run are slinging mud and calling each other names like "moron."

And whoever wins the nomination for governor in Tuesday's primary gets the pleasure of challenging an incumbent with a huge campaign fund in a Democrat-leaning state.

"It's wonderful, if you're into abuse," said Maureen Murphy, a member of the GOP State Central Committee.

Ethics and corruption have dominated the race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination. The candidates are simultaneously trying to distance themselves from former GOP Gov. George Ryan, now awaiting a jury's verdict on charges of racketeering and fraud, and tear down Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The GOP front-runner, state Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka, has been hit with accusations that she is part of a corrupt network of political insiders. One challenger has accused her of ordering her staff to shred a potentially embarrassing document. The document was eventually released to the public.

In response, Topinka skipped some appearances with her rivals and said it was a relief not to debate "a bunch of morons."

Topinka would not even be in the race if things had worked out as she wanted.

1. Yep.
A lot of Democrats are angry at the current Democratic Governor but the Republicans don't have a candidate good enough to beat him.

2. Let 'em eat their own
I'm still not overly confident about Illinois because our Governor has had some ethical problems of his own.

4. Someone criticized Topinka just the other day for smoking.
Talk about pettiness.
Next, they will be asking her if her underwear still has the days of the week stitched on them.
(You know, boxers or briefs?, except in this case it's a woman.)

6. Let's hope it slops over into a couple of Congressional races
If enough embarassed morons stay home in November, we could pick up four or five seats. We're going to get two for sure, but it might just turn into a statewide rout.

The GOP here is pretty hilarious. From trying to run Mike Ditka to actually nominating Alan Keyes, they turned themselves into a total joke.

Those f**kin' idiots, running commercials on TV, telling us how sorry a state Illinois is in and how they are the party of "reform" and how they are gonna reform Illinois. In the horrid economic condition of the nation, brought on by the party of corruption and cronyism, this state is actually doing fairly well.

Although I am no great fan of our current governor, I cannot argue about the fact that he is doing a pretty good job, under very adverse circumstances. How in the hell any self respecting person can continue to represent the child molesters and sex crazed mindless republicon robots is difficult to imagine.

I would hide myself in shame and re-examine my motives. If you don't hold the shitty outlook that it must take to put an R after your name, why continue to do so? My only conclusion is that (1) nobody would believe you. (2)They must all be self haters and want to redeem themselves by turning everyone else into the same values challenged freaks that they are, or (3) They really are crazy, paranoid bastards who love the sinful, criminal swamp they wallow in and want to destroy every single moral upright person in creation. Dirtball shit eating repukes need to be declared illegal, tarred, feathered, and ordered never to come among decent people again.
I would go on but I might say something insulting about those mental and ethical midgets. (oops-didn't intend to bad mouth midgets)

9. I am still worried about Blago's popularity
Unless I have been on the Il forum to long and my brain is starting to get poisoned by all the negativity there. Hopefully things will start flowing in Blago's favor once he has a repuke opponent. I dont want my bright blue state to turn red again.

11. This is chicago
we can vote twice :D Seriously I agree with you. I have no problems supporting Blago he got stem cell research in our state and has stood up to the religious right at every turn. Is he perfect no, but I'll take him in a heart beat over Judy Bar Topinka. Is it me or does she remind you of the nosey neighbor from Bewitched?

OK...so, Vote early and vote often? :7

Just wait until all the corruption charges come out against repukes after Abramoff finishes talking. The repuke party will be DEAD. Tom Delay is going down. George Ryan is going down. Cunningham already went down. The House is FULL of repukes who are connected to Abtamoff. By the time November rolls around, NO ONE will want to vote for the culture of corruption.
