10. Even if they live in a fantasy world....
... it's just the sheer SCALE of the fiction that astonishes me here.

So much stuff REALLY had to happen in order to pull off this work of fiction - it's rather mind-boggling - even for republicans.

Meanwhile the debt ceiling has been lifted, insurance rules are changing, among other pick pocket-like events.

The irony is, the biggest source of the budget deficit was just on display. Millions of dollars in resources employed to round up rural farmers and a few firecrackers. Tax cuts smax cuts I want my money back from the assholes making this type of decision.

They're having a massive circle jerk over the photo-op props.

Maybe they just like to wank it.

18. this isn't just "PSYOPS Leakage"
this is major catapulting the propaganda....they need Stephen Soderbergh.

But the massive press coverage was not just the result of a semantic misunderstanding.
Unusually, high-quality photographs and video footage of the initial deployment were made available to the press towards the end of Day One of what was billed as a campaign that would last several days. Some international media were given unusually swift military "embeds" to the area.

20. I KNEW it sounded funny
<<In US military parlance, "air assault" means transporting troops into a combat zone by air. It could include, but does not necessarily imply, air strikes. >>

Basically, they moved about 40 helicopters full of soldiers into Samarra.

21. That video sequence of the choppers (endlessly replayed)
conjured up visions of Apocalypse Now, when my wife and I were watching TV news last night. This morning, they showed explosions at night time, which again reminded me of Captain Willard's (the Charlie Sheen character) stop on the river during the nighttime firefight.

In Vietnam, these types of helicopter assaults happened constantly but VietCong and NVA had good enough intelligence that they could choose when to evade and when to put up a fight (Ap Bac). I suspect that, in the case of Swarmer, resistance made discretion the better part of valor. But make no mistake -- if this becomes an on-going tactical practice by U.S. forces, at some point there will be a really nasty firefight, a la Black Hawk Down.
