We veteran SDS members who have resumed actions
against war and imperialism, in concert with the new generation of SDS,
welcome with lifted hearts, and embrace once more as our comrades in the fight, the Black Panthers who now in New Orleans call for the end of the murderous and racist Bush Regime.

5. Okay...I'll admit it. Agent Mike probably knows about it anyway,
so WTF. Many long years ago, I was a member of SDS. Now I will admit that I joined because of my opposition to the Vietnam War and didn't really know until I actually began going to meetings how far left the other members actually were. There really WAS a far left in those days and some in my chapter were actually self-proclaimed Maoists! I never totally agreed with them but I liked them anyway.

I believe this was in 1968, and both my future husband and I were members of this chapter. Now I never misrepresented myself...I flat-out told everyone that I was a LIBERAL, not a "radical" or a communist. I wonder how many other DUers are old enough to remember the days when "liberal" was a dirty word coming from the LEFT, and when there actually WAS such a thing as a "far left" in this country. I laugh when the Freepers talk about sites like DU as "far left" websites. My political beliefs have actually changed very little in all these years...it's the country that has swung so far to the right it is totally unbalanced and insane.

I just put the SDS link on my favorites list and may even encourage my son and daughter to join. After all, they'd be carrying on a family tradition!

6. I joined in 1968 too.
Thanks for keeping the SDS site. It has all the important SDS documents and even a recent article by Bernadine Dohrn. If your son and daughter want a great education in US rad politics, it's right there for them!

7. there's a lot of us 60s vets (not necessarily SDS) who . . .
are getting re-energized to fight because the enemy is so powerful and the stakes are so high . . .

though I thought my political action days were over, there comes a time when things become so desperate that not to act is simply not an option . . .

that time is now . . .

8. I know the Movement was kind of an umbrella
that contained various antiwar groups. And a lot of previously unpolitical people (frat guys and artsy craftsies) came out for the Moratorium in October 1969. We kept on adding people!
