1. They are still withholding information regarding John. There was another
country involved in the surveillance of john that has never come out. It was probably England.

24. Indeed it was.
Though not mentioned even on this program, one of the things that bothered the governments in both lands was that John was helping David Peel, of the Lower East Side Gang band, help fund "the good fight." A portion of profits that was attributed to the song "Luck of the Irish" from the Sometime in New York City album, went through a friend of David's. Ah, the good old days. Likely an appropriate subject for St. Patrick's Day.

3. Instructed by Nixon, Edgar Hoover started deportation proceedings
coinidentaly, Nixon's election was that year and Lennon was speaking out too loudly about the Viet Nam war.
Something like Sibel Edmonds, Ashcroft fires her and put the gag-oreder on her.

4. Just more slanted bullshit written by Busheviks
The History Channel has gone so far up the Bush asshole it should be called the Orwell Channel.

It is part and parcel of the Imperial Party, nothing more.

The "History Channel" among other things (it is simply impossible to name all the ways both subtle and sublime that Bushevik Lies and Half-Truths are disseminated by the once-proud channel now turned Serial Liar:

US Grant waged a "War on Terror"
The KKK was the "Terrorist Wing of the Democrat Party"
Andrew Jackson made a preventative strike into Florida
Our brief assault on Tripoli was just like the Iraq War
The War of 1812 was just like the Iraq War.
James Madison was just like W Bush.
The War of 1812 was opposed by "anti-war Democrats" but Madison was a Republican (the Republican Party was founded in 1856 by Yankee Liberal Abolitionists)

And so forth. All of these are revisionist history or painfully long reaches to make ahistoric comparisons.

The History Channel should be considered suspect by all Free Americans (what few of us remain in this Imperial and Slavish land). It is an arm of the Bush Party-Loyal Sub-Media and Lie Laundry, and as believable as the Bible Code and UFO shows it airs regularly.

6. I stopped watching it after they had the the deal that accused LBJ
of having JFK assassinated. They were suspicious before with their military bent. But that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

7. I agree
I wanted to see what they would say and it's definitely not John's viewpoint. I still watch it for the footage but I think most DUers know how ti weed out the crap.

18. When I posted this thread
I really didn't know what the History channel take would be. Would it be a puff piece or Nixon's/FBI point of view?? I knew John Lennon's point of view was "what do they want for me." We can't know what John Lennon's view would be.

The second half of the program was pretty fair but that is easy to say when you post a message 5 minutes before the program is over.

21. It was already on, I forced myself to watch it once, that was more
than enough.

I was (and sometimes still am...old addictions die hard, even when one knows they have turned from entertainment to mind-poison, as the History Channel has) a diehard History Channel watcher.

I culled each specific example (and there are many more I chose not to recall or list here) from a show I personally watched.

As to the Lennon Declassified episode, aside from the general tone, as if it was written by Bill O'Reilly himself in which all FBI assumptions are taken as gospel and Lennon cast as the Dangerous Enemy Hoover believed him to be, certain moments startled me as only looking straight into the soulless heart of Bushevism/Freeperism, such as the deliberate culling of Jerry Rubin's (I think it was he they showed...you tell me you just watched it) quote of "Let's free ALL the prisoners." struck me as the kind of Orwellian editing so common from the Bush party-Loyal Sub-Media and Lie Laundry.

Was Rubin, as the clip seemed to suggest, advocating the opening of all prison doors and releasing ALL the prisoners, including rapists, murderers, etc.? I am almost certain he was NOT, and yet, most people who saw that clip probably came away with that misinformation, as it was intended by the Freeper-types who now write a substantial portion of History Channel Shows (not all, though, to be fair).

Likely the context was the release of political prisoner or perhaps imprisoned protestors...one would have to see the entire speech to knwo for sure.

But it doesn't matter. The propaganda was catapulted, and every individual (perhaps numbering in the thousands) who came away thinking "Jesus, was that crazy pal of Lennon's advocating releasing every rapist and killer in the nation? And Lennon was HELPING him? Maybe the Busheviks have a point about Lennone being evil," is a victory for our Soviet-style Busheviks and their NewSpeak History.

Mission accomplished. The Bushevik/Orwellian "water" continues to carve the Grand Canyon of Totalitarianism out of the Formerly Free America.

22. You let your bias against the History Channel color your take...
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 11:47 PM by hexola
...in which all FBI assumptions are taken as gospel and Lennon cast as the Dangerous Enemy Hoover believed him to be...

Isn't that exactly what happened...?

They weren't trying to revise history - just recount it...

The Rubin quote was not untypical of the radicalism of the era. I think he DID mean let them ALL out. He was a radical.

Should the Rubin quote never be heard...? He said it, no?

I think this should be reccomended viewing for all those who did not live through this era...pretty crazy shit back then...

I made my kids watch it...

I know the History Channel generally sucks and promotes war...but this was about as well done as one might expect.

I thought the piece was very sympathetic to Lennon...

23. It is the History Channel that is biased
for making note of that I am biased?

:silly: OK, then.

Of course the Rubin quote should be heard, with proper context and not cut to make it look s crazy as possible. The fact of the matter is that we don't know what Rubin meant by that quote, and we cannot know unless some context is provided. Another half-minute of what he said around it might have done so, but it was sliced and diced like a NewsMax story.

Further, I could give two s**ts whether the History Channel promotes war, so long as they do so with an honest rendition of history (see my numerous other examples above), not one in which all events of the past are framed to relate to the King George and the Iraq Invasion.

Go back and read the numerous examples I laid out above, for what they are are stealthy advertisements for mindless Bush support, delivered (as all good advertising, PR, and propaganda) as direct to the subconscious as can be.

"I made my kids watch it..."

Then it's "Karl Rove Says: Mission Accomplished!"

We will have to agree to disagree here, because that show was mostly sympathetic to the FBI, showing how dangerous Lennon "truly was".

We have a Rashemon moment here, and we should probably let it go at that.

26. John and Yoko bankrolled the first Watergate "conspiracy" report in '72
It was in Paul Krassner's newsletter, The Realist, in 1972.

Whether you agree with Mae Brussell's take on Watergate, she was among the first to report the larger implications of the "third-rate burglary".
