Things you have to believe to be a Republican today - response from friend
The following is a response from a friend of mine in North Carolina, I have always suspected he is republican, mostly because his father was but sometimes he sees it our way. The beliefs were originally posted here yesterday and I sent them to my email list.
Here is the original post:

Here is the response from the south:

Jesus loves you and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
Ayeap

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

No, he was always a low-life SOB

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

BS. It is all a dumbass idea. F international harmony.

The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

We might as well be out now. They never back any of our half baked proposals. We do not pay our dues & let the asshole diplomats get away with murder by letting them ignore our laws.

A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

BS

The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

BS

If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

Dumb BS. We did not have condoms in the schools when we went thru. Did it stop our peers from having sex?

A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

I doubt it.

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

BS. HMOs & insurance companies are like the rest of corporate America... GIVE US THE PROFITS.

Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

Global warming & tobacco are junk. Cancer is in a person's genetic make-up. Creationism, like abortion should not be a political issue.

A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

They are all a bunch of lying low-life bastards. How else would they get into office to start with?

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

I see no problem with banning queer marriages. They are a figment of fantasy. Most of our problems now are the result of government interference or government ignoring things where it should intervene. We do have too much government as it is, just that too much of it is misdirected.

The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.

BS. Who gives a shit about either one?

Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

Doesn't matter who you are. It is a failing. I know of very few that could not use some prayers on their behalf.

You support states' rights, but Attorney General John Ashcroft can tell states what local voter initiatives they have the right to adopt.

BS

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.
See my comments about presidential lies. They both did what most any man I know would do in such circumstances.... Deny, Deny, Deny.

2. The respondent uses very common COP OUTS. Some people are defeated
before anything happens. This is either a very limited person or a very IR-RESPONSIBLE person, lacking initiative, or creativity or something.

I perceived these answers to be more in the way of breaking down. Not being able to defend the party any more but still not willing to totally deny the heritage that so many life republicans claim while they deny it.

7. He's not aware of how unlike himself he sounds then?
These are the words of someone who has learned, or is feigning, helplessness. I've heard them before.
