News: NCAA tourney costs corp. $4B??!!
On the Nightly News tonight, we get this nonsense: lost productivity is estimated to cost "Corporate America" $ 4 billion!!!
Where do they get this BS anyway. The administration is running amuk, a fake war is being waged by our "wartime president", uncountable corrupt deeds go unpunished -- and we get the news that our benevolent Corporate fathers will loose $4B due to workers checking on the scores.
If it's true, may it come out of the CEO's pay please.

1. they're obviously not salespeople, or they'd know the value of sports

i think at least half of our country's entire sales force would be at a complete loss for how to make a sale if it weren't for sports events like the ncaa touney.

2. The same place they come up with all of their facts.
As Al Franken would say "From their ass!" And that is exactly where they get them from. It is costing me absolutely nothing to run this window with a live scoreboard in the corner of my screen.

They are so obsessed about squeezing the last iota of work possible out of a person that it has reached the point of overkill. But they will tell you how it's so important to them that you feel a sense of "ownership" and take pride in feeling like a part of their corporation.

3. I remember watching a small TV at work on the first days of the
tournament in years past. I had it hidden behind a row of binders so that you couldn't see it unless you were in my cubicle, and I had a stack of books that I could quickly slide in front of it in case of an emergency. :D

I remember another year when I had a job I wasn't terribly attached to, and we brought a regular 25-inch TV into a back office and watched all of Thursday and Friday without bothering to hide it.

As for lost productivity, I would say it was minimal or non-existent in both cases. I still got shit done.
