Company mum on job losses associated with BoA takeover
WILMINGTON, DEL. (Jan 6): Mainers awaiting word of where the reported 6,000 layoffs associated with Bank of America's $34.2 billion takeover of credit lender MBNA must continue waiting.

Corporate spokesmen in Belfast and those cited in articles published throughout the United States have yet to indicate when or where job cuts will be made.

Ireland news agencies are reporting that no cuts will be made to MBNA's call center in Carrick-On-Shannon, however, where some 1,000 people work. News sources in England report that some 400 positions will be eliminated from MBNA's Chester site, the company's home for European operations and some 4,000 employees. MBNA Europe has been under the management of Chief Executive Officer Shane Flynn. Flynn was formerly MBNA's regional manager for New England and will leave the company later this month, according to reports published on cheshire.online.

The buyout, announced in June 2005, was made final Jan. 1, 2006. At the time, BoA Chairman Kenneth Lewis claimed that his company would realize some $850 million in operation savings on an annual basis and that 6,000 job losses would be part of the cost savings.
