Something my son learned today
I just got off the phone with my 14-year old son, who is in Germany this week as part of a student exchange. He just tonight met the father of the family he's staying with, because the dad has been in Iran for the last couple of weeks as part of his job as a translator.

My son was telling his host about our family and he said the man became very excited when he found out that I'm originally from Georgia, saying that there were two American presidents he loved (and my son said he used that word): Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. He also said that he hated and feared George Bush, and felt that Americans made a huge mistake electing him as President.

After that, they discussed the importance of political awareness and my son proceeded to educate his host about Democratic Underground and stolen elections!

This has made me feel very happy this evening.

5. Thanks - I'm very proud of him.
The funny thing is, until today he's been sometimes a little impatient with me because of my obsessive interest in politics. I think talking about it with someone else - someone he's not related to - has opened his eyes a lot more. It's one thing for him to listen to me ranting about BushCo and the Republicans, and quite another for him to hear it from someone else. I've never heard him speak with such passion before. I hope it continues.

4. You should be very proud of your son.
I am sure that man is in the majority of Europeans, if not all citizens of the world.
