Sanders supports Bush impeachment probe

By Evan Lehmann, Transcript Washington Bureau

Thursday, March 16
WASHINGTON — Congressman Bernard Sanders quietly reversed course last week and signed onto a bill that would launch an investigation into whether President Bush should be impeached.

Snip...

Sanders did place his name on the bill last Thursday, days after the passage of various town and county resolutions in Vermont calling for impeachment.

"We felt it appropriate based on what Vermonters were telling us," Weaver said Wednesday. "This is really an example of grassroots democracy in action."

Snip..

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., said in the Capitol Wednesday that Congress should begin hearings on Bush's prewar planning and his warrantless surveillance program, which Leahy says is illegal. But the House impeachment resolution faces an impossible climb, he said.

1. Now you see, we lead Congresspeople, not the other way around.
That's the way it should be.

5. I actually vote for people
who will think for themselves. That includes Bernie, Pat and Jim. I don't expect them to agree with me all the time, or do what I want them to do. I expect them to act ethically and make decisions that are right for Vermont, right for the country, and right for the world.

I don't want to lead my delegation to Washington. I voted for them because I have faith in their leadership.

You did the right thing by co-sponsoring Conyers' bill. I hope you activily participate in all the investigations after you become Senator in the November elections.

:)

9. going the right direction
"Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., said in the Capitol Wednesday that Congress should begin hearings on Bush's prewar planning and his warrantless surveillance program, which Leahy says is illegal."

um, yeah!

"But the House impeachment resolution faces an impossible climb, he said."

I think Conyers might do better to introduce a resolution about the illegal wiretapping. The Iraq war, the torture all confuses what otherwise would be a speedy trial and impeachment. Bush broke the law. Bush admitted it. The constitution states he must be impeached.
