2. The economy is not good.
Unless you're in the top 2 % of income... But they have been pushing that point on C-SPAN talking points, I have noticed.

3. No.

They are using the fact that corporations are making record profits and the very small investor class is getting rich. That is their barometer.

They are so out of touch, they ignore that real wages have DECREASED and that inflation is starting to zoom. And, those are the figures that affect the vast majority of Americans.

Their pathetic charts and graphs don't mean a damn thing in the face of trying to make ends meet in the real world.

4. The economy IS good...if you're in the top 10% of wealthy.
They're really not lying, they're just not telling the WHOLE truth!

5. Considering how high I read that personal debt is, I can't see how
the economy is doing well. It's a house of cards, ready to fall.

6. We are in a fantasy rally in the stock market...for average Joes...
the economy is getting worse and worse. Gas for my car costs double what it did a couple of years ago. Natual gas to heat my house went up hundreds of dollars though less was used this winter (we turned the thermostat down.) Medical insurance is covering less, costing more and doctors and drugs are billing more than ever.

9. Some people believe the lie
I've inherited a business subscription along with a house I don't want and a car I had to sell for peanuts, and the chirpy tone on the economy provides an amazing amount of cognitive dissonance to a person (me) who has been unemployed for 2 1/2 years and living on savings while watching the cost of all necessities shoot through the roof.

No, I don't think they're fooling too many of us out here in workaday land, but they may still be fooling business owners in walled suburbia who might have seen an overall decrease in business but aren't worrried about it yet because their stock portfolios are doing well.

Your view on the economy is shaped by what you're watching. If you're watching the stock market, you've seen a market that's essentially been flat since 1999, but you haven't lost anything. If you're keeping your eye on inflation, unemployment, underemployment, and the erosion of all worker benefits from pensions through health insurance, you know the economy stinks. If you're keeping an eye on average family debt load, the national debt, the trade balance, and the decline in the dollar in world currency markets, you know we're near panic mode on the economy.

10. I'm amazed when I go to the supermarket
I go every day, and rarely walk out for under $40. Minor things are at least $3 or $4, and so just 8 or 10 items for the express lane can rack up $40, no problem.

13. tune in to the talk shows
Russert, Matthews and the rest will tell you that * poll numbers are down because of Iraq. This is the favorite talking point of bushs' people " but the economy is good". They are angry and almost biting there tongue, today they will be on wolf bitzer and tweety bitch bragging about how they are killing Iraqis to boost his poll numbers. Personally I believe they are in the teens or lower.
