No, never mind, maybe the old vietnam slogans would work - given that similarities between the two conflicts.

Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 12:18 PM by flamin lib
Yeah, come on all of you, big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got his butt in a terrible crack
Way down yonder in Iraq
So put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

And it's one, two, three
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a shit,
Next stop will be Tikrit.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Apologies to Country Joe

19. Help Beat the Machines! VOTE!
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 12:33 PM by Peace Patriot
No more "TRADE SECRET" programming of elections! No more war!

Transparent elections = good government.
Non-transparent elections = the Bush junta.

Throw Diebold and ES&S election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor' NOW!

"It's not who votes, it's who COUNTS the votes"--Josef Stalin

Stop the war! Stop the torture! Stop the looting! COUNT ALL THE VOTES!

We can beat the fraud with big turnouts! VOTE!

NO to "trade secret" voting counting! YES to democracy! STOP the war!

Bushite corporations control the voting machines--NOW what do we do?

Bushite corporations control the voting machines--and you wonder why we have unjust war, torture and massive theft by the rich"?

---------

Of the two corporations that counted 80% of the nation's votes in 2004, with 'TRADE SECRET' programming code, and virtually no audit/recount controls, one, Diebold, was headed by CEO Wally O'Dell, a major Bush fundraiser who promised in writing to "deliver" Ohio's electoral votes to Bush/Cheney in 2004, and the other, ES&S, a spinoff of Diebold (similar computer architecture), was initially funded by rightwing billionaire Howard Ahmanson, who also gave one million dollars to the extremist 'christian' Chalcedon Foundation (which, among other things, touts the death penalty for homosexuals). Diebold and ES&S have an incestuous relationship--they are run by two brothers, Tod and Bob Urosevich.

These are the people who 'counted' our votes behind a veil of secrecy.

The war profiteering corporate news monopolies are equally bad. They, acting in concert on election night 2004, through one polling organization (Edison-Mitofsky) FALSIFIED their exit polls (Kerry won) to 'FIT' the results of Diebold's and ES&S's secret vote tabulation formulae (Bush won)--thus depriving the American people of major evidence of election fraud, and squelching protests and calls for investigation. In no other country in the world are exit polls mixed with the official results. Only here. Exit polls are used worldwide to verify elections and check for fraud. Not here.

And our Democratic Party leadership was silent throughout this destruction of our election system--wrought by the two biggest crooks in Congress, Tom Delay and Bob Ney, with the $4 billion "Help America Vote Act" electronic voting boondoggle, that contained no paper trail requirement, no controls on partisan vendors and lavish lobbying, no controls on private, secret, industry 'testing' of the voting machines, and underfunded regulators. This fraudulent election SYSTEM was put into place in the 2001-2004 period, with no opposition from the Democratic Party, and, indeed, with the collusion of many Democratic leaders including election officials around the country--the result of fear, in some cases, and of corruption in others.

Everybody failed us. Every political and government institution. Every check and balance.

Non-transparent elections are not elections. They are tyranny. That's what we have.

26. The purpose of signs and messages should not be to CONVINCE the
American people. They ARE convinced. The purpose should be to EMPOWER them to seize back public control over our election system, and restore our right to vote.

They need to KNOW that the mechanism by which we exercise our sovereignty as a people--our vote--has been TAKEN AWAY by private, partisan voting machine companies, during the 2001-2004 period, using 'TRADE SECRET" PROPRIETARY software. THAT is the problem!

They need to know it's fixable. They need PRACTICAL ADVICE on HOW TO GET THEIR POWER BACK!

You can say "Stop the War!" all you want, but if peoples' votes are not counted, you can't stop the war or anything else.

58% of the American people opposed this war FROM THE BEGINNING, before the invasion (Feb. '03), even before all the lies were exposed and the full horror of it were known. They didn't trust Bush THEN, and didn't support his unjust, pre-emptive war, especially with other alternatives clearly available. And these opinions have only gotten stronger. I think it's 80% today, who DON'T SUPPORT THIS WAR. All other stats show similar, huge disagreement between government and people. One of my favorites is this: 63% of the American people oppose torture "under any circumstances" (May '04). They are resisting Bush/corporate war profiteer propaganda, and are sticking to their sense of ethics and right conduct, and their progressive views, despite all the fear-mongering and war-mongering.

They don't' need convincing. They need HELP in throwing these private, rightwing, Bushite corporations out of our election system. Help in knowing about it and understanding it. And help in ousting them--and restoring our right to vote.

How about just this simple sign:

THROW DIEBOLD AND ES&S ELECTION THEFT MACHINES INTO "BOSTON HARBOR" NOW!

This statement says a lot. It IDENTIFIES the problem--and the source of all the problems--i.e., the REASON we have war despite big majorities against it. It names the worst of the electronic vote theft companies. It points to American Revolution II, and to what is necessary for the success of such a revolution. It indicates that the revolution can be peaceful and democratic. And, by putting "Boston Harbor" is quotes, it says, again, be PEACEFUL. Throwing them into "Boston Harbor" is a metaphor for strong, purposeful civic action--to remove these machines from our election system, and to DEMAND transparent elections.

55. mine's ready...
I filched from the '64 campaign when Goldwater put up signs that said "In Your Heart, You Know He's Right".

I spray painted a stencil of Bush and put the LBJ campaign response next to it - "In Your Guts You Know He's Nuts".

Scary to think the Republicans actually elected someone scarier than Goldwater.

PBS News Hour tonight and retired general Bernard Trainor was talking about his and Gordon's new book, Cobra II. He said it was those three making the decisions and running the war.

78. "He Has Waged Cruel War..."
It's the first phrase an an indictment of George III that Thomas Jefferson was forced to cut from the final draft of the Declaration Of Independence.

It reads (not in it's entirety, and from memory): "He has waged cruel war against nature itself in the persons of a distant people who never offended him; captivating them and carrying them away into slavery in another hemisphere, hoping to keep open a market where men are bought and sold."

It was an indictment of the British slave-trade, and the Southern congressional delegates forced him to remove the paragraph from the Declaration before they voted to approve the document.

Put this on a sign with a picture of Bush wearing a lopsided king's crown. That would be a great protest sign.

85. How about STOP THE FUKKING WAR?
You're marching TOMORROW and you haven't thought about what you want to say?

Maybe this is a situation we should focus on: Many groups wanting to get the message out, without a clear idea of what the message should be.

"Catchy Phrases" aren't the answer. SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER IS.

I live for the day when my party and those who share my ideals will be able to speak with a single voice.

God Damn, I hope I live for a hundred more years...
