4. Not with this bunch in power, they don't
They do have a way to throw all these pious assholes out of office, though, and should do so as quickly as possible.

3. It's like I tell everybody up here in Canada who thinks we're a bunch
o' nutjobs down in the States:

People are more in favor of privacy than they are against abortion. It's as simple as that. Maybe people should stop bashing South Dakota now.

5. The law was lobbied for and funded from sources outside the state
The radical fundie pro-birth organizations pumped money into this, not the citizens of South Dakota

8. Encouraging
This does show that it was outside interests who bought the state legislature.

11. "citizens" of SD voted in the law, NOT outside organizations
unless your legislators can be non-citizens of SD.

6. 2006 is going to tell me if South Dakota really wants to get rid of this
http://www.sdsos.gov/electionsvoteregistration/upcomingelection_06electioncalendar.shtm

Because if these people elect the same dumbasses that put them where they are now then why should I bother to help them anymore?

When are the citizens of this country, and it's states, going to realize that what "We The People" want is Irrelevant?

14. Republicans shun Democracy as a badge of honor..
While they preened and boasted about their 'political capital' the standard MO of the pukes is to constantly remind people we don't live in a democracy (as if there ever was a democracy) - it's a nice way of saying that they are not interested in following the will of the majority...

10. I wonder if the SD legislators and gov will be going the way of the
Dover, PA school board?

After the expense of a ballot initiative, several court battles, and the PR black eye.

12. So, as usual, the will of the people means nothing......
to their elected leaders, both Republican and Democrat alike, in this instance. I was appalled at the number of Democrats in South Dakota supporting this horse-hockey. The will be the people will be ignored to appease the Reich-Wingnuts because they have a monopoly on morality, right? :eyes:

15. Taxation without representation
The majority don't want this, yet it's forced on them anyway. The people of South Dakota need to make sure everyone who supported this travesty are voted out.

Oh yeah...provided they can get an honest vote. Is Diebold in charge of elections in South Dakota?

16. So, can we have an end to the bashing of rural populations
we get treated to every time a group of politicians do something vile and stupid? These people are potential DEM voters if we go about it with some empathy and offer some solutions to the problems they know we face as a nation! MOST people know the junta and the fundamentalists are not making America better! Let's show them some good ideas instead of contempt.

That red state bashing thing plays right into Rove's hands. It gives the GOP fuel for their argument that DEMS are elitist snobs. It prevents our message from getting through to people who are actually hungry to hear it.

The people, we need to befriend. The people, we share much common ground with. The people are betrayed by their representatives locally just like they are nationally! Build bridges to THE PEOPLE and give them an alternative to the business as usual GOP/Fundy alliance!

17. Do They Have Any Sort Of Initiative Process
If so, a group should start a petition to get a measure on the ballot overturning this horrible law that threatens women's health.

19. They have started a petition to put this on the November ballot
I heard it on NPR this morning. They need something like 17,000 names by June 15 (I think) to get it on the ballot. Planned Parenthood hasn't decided whether or not it will join in the petition or start a lawsuit.

FYI - Some folks in SD are fighting to make sure that only SD residents be allowed to circulate the petition to allow SD residents to vote on the issue. Odd since the same people don't seem to have a problem with out of staters being involved in designing their laws.

18. Polls, News, Statistics and Lies
Frankly, I believe this to be another cynical attempt to reach W's Supremes before the end of his 2nd term ... with the aim of overturning Roe v. Wade via a different rationale.
