Bet on a Bet but Not on a Ballot - Washington Post
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 11:53 AM by helderheid
It's easier to rig an electronic voting machine than a Las Vegas slot machine, says University of Pennsylvania visiting professor Steve Freeman.

That's because Vegas slots are better monitored and regulated than America's voting machines, Freeman writes in a book out in July that argues, among other things, that President Bush may owe his last win to an unfair vote count.

The Stanford Political Communication Lab experiments are serious research studies, designed to test real hypotheses on important issues in political science, sociology and psychology. The link below will take you to the lab's Web site where you can take part in the experiments.

We'll wait to read "Was the 2004 Presidential Election Stolen? Exit Polls, Election Fraud, and the Official Count" before making a judgment about that. But Freeman has assembled comparisons that suggest Americans protect their vices more than they guard their voting rights, according to data he presented at an October meeting of the American Statistical Association chapter in Philadelphia.

5. Good God. Does anyone remember Carol Burnett's old joke?
"The only way to break even in Vegas is to use the pay toilets."

And, Freeman says American voting machines aren't even *THAT* secure.

But, let's wait until we take back the House to make it an issue -- oops.

than winning in Vegas?

21. Great article & graphic...BUT here it is a few months before yet another
election an no one in charge seems to be even noticing there is a problem.. They are running off at the mouth bout BIRD FLU (which probably won;t be a big deal), and are deliberately AVOIDING this.. How we vote is something only THEY can actually change.. We can bitch and complain, but ultimately our names are not called out in the rollcall votes in congress..

It has totally amazed me how bull-headed 99% of our "elected" officials are about this whole thing.. Every time someone documents it or even writes about it, they start clucking and mentioning "conspiracy nuts"..

We ought to start using "elected" instead of elected, since we really can never be sure if the machines that put them there were rigged or not..

25. What do voting machines and Vegas slot machines have in common?
Money! How to protect it and make more of it at all costs is the name of the game when it comes to voter disenfranchisement and Las Vegas revenue.

37. Finally, a year and a half after Bushco blatantly stole the 2004 "election
and we all sent thousands of letters to MSM including WaPo who had a blackout on the news DESPITE Rep. Conyers Hearings (Where is the mention of Conyers' report WHAT WENT WRONG IN OHIO?

and the day by day reporting of the Green Party of the obstructed attempt to do an audit of the vote in Ohio and several other states. WaPo could have helped with the recount.

I am glad they are printing this but...
