6. You need to just find a song you like and hang out with it
Hopefully you have a decent guitar...if you get one that has the "action" too high, i.e. the distance of the strings to the fretboard, it can make it even harder.

Some of the best songs to learn first only involve learning a few chords. It's the strumming and rhythm that really are the test.

It's also hard to teach guitar in an HTML text area form. :->

7. So true
The kid is going through the Dylan and Guthrie songbook too. He's even written a song called "Bush is a monkey" that needs some work, but offer promise.
