Gov Dean:"Feingold is a Traitor'That's what Republicans want you to think"
'Russ Feingold is a Traitor'
That's what Republicans want you to think.

They are so scared of having a legitimate debate about Iraq or national security that they have only one reaction to news of their failures or calls for accountability.

On Monday, Democratic Senator Russ Feingold introduced legislation to censure the President for breaking the law by creating a secret domestic spying program. Agree or disagree with his proposal, as a Senator -- and as an American -- he has the right to speak his mind and express his views without Republican Senators questioning his patriotism.

But that's exactly what happened. This week Republican Senator Wayne Allard of Colorado, in an interview with Fox News radio, said in response to Feingold's action that he has "time and time again with the terrorists".

Send a message to Senator Allard: shame on him for questioning the patriotism of another Senator. Sign this petition and it will be delivered to Allard:

http://www.democrats.org/stopattackingruss

Agree or disagree with Russ Feingold's censure resolution, it is completely out of bounds to suggest that anyone demanding accountability is siding with terrorists. It is simply un-American to question the patriotism and loyalty of a Senator who wants the Congress to live up to its responsibility.

We've heard this cowardly nonsense from Republican leaders before. They attacked decorated Veteran and Democratic Rep. Jack Murtha for getting real on Iraq. They attacked Democratic Leader Harry Reid for shutting down the Senate to demand answers about manipulated pre-war intelligence.

They have ended the careers of generals who questioned Bush Administration talking points, and they even attack their own when respectable Republicans speak out on the disaster this administration has created in Iraq and its failure to close the gaps in our security here at home.

And time and again, the Republican controlled congress has consistently failed to conduct real oversight of the Administration, choosing instead to protect the Administration.

But polls show that nearly 70% of Americans reject this president and the Republican Congress that has failed to hold him accountable. And together we will hold Republicans accountable at the ballot box this year.

That's why the Democratic Party is putting the infrastructure on the ground now to fight in all 50 states. People everywhere are saying "enough is enough" -- and we will be ready to organize and fight everywhere with your help.

Please contribute whatever you can to make it happen:

The sick behavior of desperate Republicans will only stop when we fight back, and 2006 is the time to do it.

Thank you,

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

9. He isn't so much supporting Feingold as challenging the Republicans
lies and spin on this. I don't think you should take this as an endorsement of Feingold. Dr. Dean has to support all the Democrats as Chairman.

8. He doesn't take sides exactly, he just calls out the Republican's
tactics of accusing anyone who questions this administration as unpatriotic and suggests this administration needs to be called out for it.I don't see this as more than just supporting our right to be heard and not accused of being traitors or unpatriotic.

11. This Should Be The First Salvo In Accountability
Every march starts with a single step. This is a tactical move that is designed to define a debate that is sure to rage this fall...and to put people on record...Democrats and Repugnicans on their stands on the criminality and corruption of this regime and the Repugnican party.

There are plenty of things to censure and many ways it can be done. Senator Feingold has started to churn the waters...and framing an issue that Democrats can and should use in the elections this fall. His motion is strictly on the issue of illegal wiretapping and to put Repugnicans on record as to if they condone this activity or not. This could create a lot of problems for a Lincoln Chaffee or a Mike DeWine if they appear to be in favor of these violations of civil liberties that a majority of the people in their respective states don't agree with. It also tars these "independents" with all the corruption and slime of the entire party as it shows they really have no spines.

Governor Dean is marking works and taking measure. Time is on his side right now as the Repugnicans continue to drown in their own hypocrisy, scandals and swill. The game here is to force every Repugnican up for re-election this fall to justify their support for this regime, shine lights on their specific corporate/K-Street corruption and hold them responsible for the sad state this country is now facing. There's a silent rage out there...the trick for Gov. Dean is to find a way to channel it into 435 House races and 34 Senate races.

15. That's right. Don't give to the DNC which has no control over congress.
Don't give to the group who is speaking out.

Right.

16. Signed petition with this Theodore Roosevelt quote:
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

Said that according to T. Roosevelt, Senator Allard is the real traitor.

19. My letter to Sen. Allard
If Mr. Bush is really only tapping phones of suspected terrorists, then why was he afraid to go through the FISA court, as required by law? Let's be honest here, you know as well as I do that Mr. Bush is spying on his political opposition, as well as on his 'loyal' supporters like yourself.

If you support this behavior, fine. But to hide your cowardice behind the need to fight terrorism is not only flat out dishonest, but dangerous. Remember the boy who cried wolf? Using anti-terrorist rhetoric to camoflague political crimes cheapens and dishonors a legitimate concern.

Meanwhile, the ports remain unsecured, emergency workers still don't have a communications system that will work in an emergency and Iraq is functioning as a 24/7 recruiting ground for Al-Qaeda.

Thanks for nothing, Senator.
