America Overwhelmingly Supports Raising The Minimum Wage
This has to be a big issue for us this year.

Look at these numbers! 83-14% in favor of a raise.

1. The Minimum Wage is Becoming Obsolete
Even maintenance work in the mall or jobs in the scrapyards pay $9.00 per hour. I can't believe some people still get paid $5.25.

The only question is how high. I think $10-12 is a good range.

2. Not in these parts (TX). $5.15 is the PREVAILING wage for svc related
positions, w/most never receiving a raise in yrs.

Unless you work in the restaurant industries, where it is $2.13 hr, + tips.

I know I'm in TX (right to work state), but I recently researched this topic for a friend and you would be amazed at how low min wage standards are across the country, and how frequently the minimum is the prevailing wage.

Slave wages.

4. I would be interested to know
who is only paying the federal minimum wage outside of some little family business with their kids on the payroll. I know of no jobs here in the right-to-work state of Kansas only paying the federal minimum wage.

It is going to be many many years for the federal minimum wage to ever reach $8.00 per hour even with a majority of Dems in the house and senate and a Democrat as president.

It has a much better chance of becoming a living wage by state legislatures.

6. My son recently applied for several retail jobs at the Houston Galleria
which were all mostly large, national chain stores. Not a single one offered pay above minimum wage of $5.15 / hr.

Needless to say, I'm subsidizing his rent pymt (sigh).

3. Popular, but I think it flies in the face of economic pressures that
are driving American buying power lower.
