Stephen King Foundation Saves Library
ALLAGASH - The public library in the remote northern Maine town of Allagash has been given new life thanks to a donation from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation.

Library supporter Faye Hafford feared that the two-room library would have to close because of the high cost of fuel and an aging furnace that might not make it through the winter.

The King Foundation heard about the library's plight and asked Hafford for an estimate on the price of a new furnace.

She said the cost was just over $20,000, and the foundation responded by sending a check for $25,000, telling Hafford to use the remainder to buy fuel. A new furnace will be installed once the winter is over if the old furnace makes it through the cold season, she said.

This is the kind of thing I hope I would do if I were a bajillionaire.

2. Stephen King is a good, solid, unrepentant hippie.

years old (now that I think about it, where WERE my parents? lol), and have been a tremendous admirer since. I have even forgiven him for his last few novels, apparently at some point he began phoning them in, so to speak.
It struck me that during the Election in '04, he spoke out vehemently against Bush/Cheney, saying that this election ('04) was the most important of his lifetime, and urging people to vote; and you know if there's anyone who can recognize EVIL, it's Stephen King.
Thank Jeebus SOMEONE still understands the importance of reading in this Country..(other than 'My Pet Goat, of course).
