3. I saw it too. They reek. The whole hour was bird flu punctuated
by really serious news--like Feingold. If people can't see through this, then they are totally blind.

5. Not to put an ugly and very unlikely spin on this, but.....
...remember the Stephen King novel, The Stand? This sounds eerily familiar as life imitates art.

7. It's King's epic novel of good versus evil. Here's a synopsis...
One man escapes from a biological weapon facility after an accident, carrying with him the deadly virus known as Captain Tripps, a rapidly mutating flu that - in the ensuing weeks - wipes out most of the world's population. In the aftermath, survivors choose between following an elderly black woman to Boulder or the dark man, Randall Flagg, who has set up his command post in Las Vegas. The two factions prepare for a confrontation between the forces of good and evil.

18. I not only read it
I lived in Boulder when he was writing it. I worked at National State Bank in 1978-79, which was located on the Pearl Street Mall. Steven would find a bench (a lot of times in front of the bank) and sit to write for hours. I would watch him from my desk. :loveya: I have always enjoyed his books; however, The Stand is, by far, my favorite!

Your compare and contrast to it is very appropriate, IMVHO.

bushco are trying to get some breathing room before they bomb Iran... Have to pretend they are looking for alternatives to war after all.... This poll came at an unfortunate moment for them, about 2 weeks before they were ready to strike.

11. I don't get it
this statement U.S. spy satellites are tracking the infected flocks, which started in Asia and are now heading north to Siberia and Alaska, where they will soon mingle with flocks from the North American flyways.

If they are tracking the birds why don't they do something about, instead of playing the fear card on America.

12. If they can track sick birdies with satellites . . .
Why can't they find Bin Laden? Or their ethics? Or their integrity?

13. I guess you can't just kill all the birds.
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 08:43 PM by NYC
Mao's China did that once. Killed all the sparrows. I can't remember why. Maybe the sparrows were eating the crops. Anyway, people kept after them, banging pots and pans so the sparrows couldn't rest, etc.

Outcome: Sparrowless summer.

So, the sparrows were not eating the crops, but the insect population was out of control because their predator, the sparrow, had been eliminated.

Bad for crops. Devastating.

Birdless Summer by Han Su Yin, 1968.

17. I'm sure they can take out
the leading pack, when birds fly they always follow the leading pack, that can be an option.
