House sign forces point of contention (Racist neighbor)
Saw this on the top 10 idiots list, but didn't know if anyone saw it posted in GD. The full story is much more sickening.

BROWNSVILLE - On a quiet street in this bucolic berg, the hand-painted sign is fixed to a house. Beneath it an arrow points to the Hispanic family next door. The sign says:

WE MUST PROTECT OUR BORDERS.

I heard about it from Clifford Case, a friend and co-worker of Ruben Garcia, whose family is the target of the sign and arrow. Garcia, 47, is a foreman at Morse Bros. Inc.'s rebar plant in Harrisburg. Married and the father of six children. And a naturalized U.S. citizen. (I've seen the document.)

The sign went up last year, soon after the Garcias bought and moved into the place on Oak Street next door to 28-year-old Robert Travis. "My first reaction to the sign was: this is somebody who doesn't like you," Garcia says. "He's trying to smash you down and hurt you."

Travis wrote a letter to the editor saying this wasn't about racism but respect. "I am not a racist," he tells you in an interview. "I have Mexican friends, Puerto Rican friends, black friends. Some of my best friends are Mexicans."

1. Another day in Moranville (no disrespect to the moron)
"Beer bottles. Kids' toys. Yeah, I've run over them with my lawn mower. I mean business. Go back to Tijuana if you're going to live that way."

Asswipe to the max.

8. My first thought--how drunk do you have to be to run over a beer bottle
with a lawn mower?

Should you be operating power tools in that condition?

4. "Some of my best friends are _________." What complete Bullshit.
This bullshit racist line has driven me crazy for years.

I want to scream at these freaks.

Have their kids had a sleepover with your kids?

Are they among the first people you want to tell when something great happens?

Have you been there for them when they were sick or down on their luck?

Hmmm... Have you ever even invited one of these best friends over for dinner?

An aquaintence you say a few words to every week is NOT A BEST FRIEND, ASSHOLES!

:grr:

7. Mr. Travis sounds pretty immature for a 28-year-old,
and just a teensy bit bewildered at the real world's collision with his white's-only fantasy world. Wish he could wake up on the other side one day, and see how it feels to be on the receiving end of this kinda thing.

Mr. Garcia, on the other hand, seems to be making his way pretty well: A naturalized citizen with a family and a good job. I couldn't find in the article any mention of Travis having any such claims to a successful life. Is he employed? Any family? Any evidence that he's not just a knuckleheaded loser?

Get a life, Bobby, and leave your neighbors alone!

10. Actual quotes from this Travis character:
"After 9/11, you had all these raghead guys and Afghanis and people putting on bumper stickers about securing our borders,"

"I can tell by looking which ones are illegals."

"There are white trash and whites, niggers and blacks, Mexicans and beaners," he says.

"If anyone is racist, it's them. I have a half-brother who's Mexican. How can I be a racist?"

*'s view of the situation? "Ah lahk to call ya mah base!"

13. I've heard/met "non-racists" like this.
They seem to think that if they acknowledge such a thing as "white trash," then they have carte blanche (pun intended) to call some black folks "nigger."

And these non-racists always point out that there are some black folks who aren't "niggers."

So, they can't be racists!

12. 28-year-old Robert Travis is eligible for military service
If he feels so strongly about defending his country, perhaps he should do a bit more than making a sign.
