Human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Iraq
Besides all the problems facing the fledgling Iraqi democracy, they also face a growing problem with human trafficking to other middle eastern nations, according to the US State Department.

Iraq is a country of origin for women and girls trafficked to Yemen, Syria, Jordan, and Gulf countries for the purposes of sexual and labor exploitation, say State Department officials. Some Iraqi women and underage girls are reportedly trafficked from rural areas to cities within Iraq itself.

Although there are no Non-Governmental Organizations or international organizations working on trafficking specifically, the NGO Women-for-Women promotes women’s programs, which indirectly help trafficking victims. Additionally, some NGOs have established safe houses in Baghdad and northern Iraq to shelter abused women, including possible trafficking victims.

Law enforcement officials throughout Iraq must work hard in order to avoid being listed with the worst nations for sex exploitation of women and children, as well as forced labor.

1. This didn't happen when Saddam was in charge
But now that we made them free, the only freedom Iraqis have is to suffer and die.

2. Is DynCorp still mixed up in this human trafficking?
I know they are still getting DoD contracts and Cynthia McKinney (GA) is still looking for answers on this grossly under-reported issue.

4. When women are poor they sell the one thing of value they have their body
and sadly there are a lot of eager men willing to cash in on it and take advantage of these women and kids.

It isn't just in Iraq..it is all over the world...even here in the US.

5. The wonders of capitalism and treating human beings as commodities.
All kinds of coerced servitude infest societies where human beings and labor are regarded as commodities. The addictions of 'ownership' entitlements to the products of labor and the treatment of 'lesser' workers (women and children) as chattel invariably follows total ownership of land and other means of production.

10. I've been wondering about prostitution in iraq
Seems like everywhere American military goes rampant drugs and prostitution follows I guess its just going to take a little bit longer to get Iraqi women and young boys to give up their dignity for money.

14. Why would a rightwinger write something that makes the war look bad?
I never heard of Kouri, and I am almost afraid to google his name if he is a fascist. I don't have the stomach for RW crap right now.
