DNC truck ad in Memphis and suspicions about the so-called turnover.
http://www.democrats.org/a/2006/03/dnc_billboard_a.php

Washington, DC - Democrats in Memphis, Tennessee, are unveiling a mobile billboard today calling on national Republicans, who are in town for a conference, to answer why they have stood in the way of improving our port security, and why they stood in the way of Democratic efforts to stop outsourcing the operation of our nation's ports.

The event comes as the AP reports that despite yesterday's news that Dubai Ports World would withdraw from the controversial ports deal the Bush Administration approved, it actually finalized the $6.8 billion takeover the very same day. An NPR report today also confirms that the foreign government-owned DP World is not only the official owner of the company that runs the ports, but that the company's statement never actually committed to selling its assets, and even if it did, "selling a terminal operation can take months." 2. The truck idea is a good one...cheaper way than TV. Localized.
More effective.

3. It is about time the Democrats call the republican bluff on these issues
For too long the Dem's have let the repukes call them weak on security and the military.
Port security is now front and center, lets keep it there through November.

6. Think how much less this costs than TV.
I think we need to be creative and more on the ground. I believe I saw that Tim posted earlier at the blog, that most of the money came from folks in TN to pay for the billboard.

That has to infuriate the GOP.

9. A Republican conference.
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 08:42 PM by madfloridian
"On the weekend Republicans gather in Memphis to coronate their standard bearer for the 2008 presidential election, the GOP is coming apart at the seams. A party that once stood for respectable conservative principles has become a mere parody of itself. The party once praised for its ability to keep a broad coalition together, is now marked with disunity and open revolt"

12. "US entity" is just one more layer of scam.
Dems had better keep on yelling. Even if they ever do a handover, it'll be to Halliburton or Carlyle. This is the biggest political fuckup I've ever seen (and I'm 46). We had better make hay on it.

16. the thing I don't like
is that it plays off of America's xenophobia, when the issue shouldn't be the sale to a foreign company, but the sale to a foreign company with ties to terrorism.

18. Disagree, I think we will find out much more of how much has been sold.
The issue is CFIUS selling off our infrastructure without congressional oversight. Even the prez did not know.

17. "Mobile billboards" are spam, no matter the message.
Those things are a traffic hazard, and are rightly illegal in many cities.

Causing accidents by diverting drivers' attention away from the road is never right.
