Tweety raising profile of RW radio Smerconish to help elect brother in Pa?
Edited on Wed Mar-08-06 05:49 PM by blm
Matthews has been featuring a RW talk radio host on his show the past couple weeks named Mike Smerconish. He happens to be in Philadelphia, a crucial area for Republicans to do well when running a statewide campaign.

I submit that Chris Matthews is doing this specifically to elevate Smerconish's profile and voice in Pennsylvania by making him a more national figure with the knowledge that IN EXCHANGE Smerconish will promote Jim Matthews' candidacy for Lt. Governor in the November election.

4. Makes me sick to watch, it is SO blatant. There has to be a campaign crime
being committed there somewhere.

Quid pro quo, and a very transparent one at that.

7. I said the same thing
RIGHT HERE. It's odd how this man just suddenly came out of the woodwork and started appearing every other day on Tweety's show all the sudden.

28. I remember Tweety saying that!
At the time, before I put all the pieces together, all I could think was: "What's so great about this guy?! Why do you want him, of all people, on every night??!!!!"

Now I know.

12. Another possibility-IF Bowtie is dumped, could this be an on-air audition
to find someone to take his place at a cheaper rate? He sure is getting a lot of airtime.

No way would a TELEVISION network seriously consider Smerconish without some influence being traded here. Come on - the guy couldn't drive his own tv show.

17. Someone with a strong stomach could check it out by listening
to Smerconish for a while and see if he is fluffing up Tweets brotehr.

Might be hard to find a volunteer for such onerous duty.

In any case, it would sure be nice if he'd give equal airtie to Amy Goodman or someone from Air America to balance him out.

Another Hannity/Rush wannabe. I can't stand him or his columns that are slobbering over Santorum and Chimp all the time. The guy is just an idiot, blowhard propagandist.

Quickly, a confession -- we had thought some of the recent anti-Chris Matthews hysteria from our friends on the left was overblown. We thought many of the foolish things he says were the result of needing to bloviate for an hour every day, and not so much from warped political bias -- until we heard him Friday on the local Michael Smerconish show in Philly.

Ironically, the topic was the Oscars. Smerconish and Matthews -- whose brother is a GOP candidate for lieutenant governor here in Pennsylvania -- were running down the list, and they came to "Good Night and Good Luck." A casual listener might expect broadcaster Matthews -- who has pretty much the same job, if not the same gravitas, as Edward R. Murrow some fifty years later -- to praise the flick -- but think again.
