O'Reilly on the "Demise of Far-Left Radio Network Air America"
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,187192,00.html

The demise of the far-left radio network Air America. That is the subject of this evening's “Talking Points Memo.”

Two New York City newspapers reported today that Air America may lose its Big Apple affiliate in a matter of weeks. The stories were based on Brian Maloney's inside information posted on radioequalizer.blogspot.com, that asserts Air America is behind paying $2.5 million a year to WLIB, its New York affiliate and that station's about to bail out. If true, that might be the end of Air America. The troubled operation is being partially supported by far-left billionaires like Rob Glaser, the CEO of Real Networks.

"Talking Points" has said from the beginning the far-left radio cannot be successful in the USA on a national level simply because most Americans don't want to hear how bad their country is 24/7. Also the smear strategy employed on Air America goes against the basic fairness of most Americans. As Alan Colmes has demonstrated, liberal radio rationally presented can be successful, but guttersnipes almost always fail in serious formats. As you know, conservative talk radio does have a few smear merchants who have been successful, but they are the exception rather than the rule. By and large, Americans want to hear relevant topics discussed in intelligent ways on talk radio, not a series of mean-spirited personal attacks a la Stuart Smalley.

Also a hallmark of the secular progressive agenda is that the USA is basically a flawed country that needs drastic change. Well, that may play well in Berkeley, but very few other places. If Air America goes down the drain, we're not going to miss it. That kind of ideological fanaticism and hatred toward other Americans is a complete waste of time. From the beginning, we were right about this operation. Now that the sun seems to be setting, it should be a lesson to everyone. Fair and balanced works. Hatred does not. That's "The Memo."

3. What's really sick is that he believes his own bs...
...Al Franken said today that Air America doesn't owe the station any money.

Interesting that he says this:
"most Americans don't want to hear how bad their country is 24/7"

What O'Reilly seems to forget is that Fox News came about solely as a right wing reaction to Bill Clinton.

19. Imagine if that were true
Bill would lose the hand full of viewer he already has. Turns out right wing talk radio showed people DO want to hear how bad the country is. (even when it's going pretty good under the Clinton years).

5. The RW played $$$ and offered station owners more than the stations
were worth to purchase and then remove AAR.

AAR should have sayed with Sirius. At least they would have had all of satellite covered.

6. I listen when I can but..
Here is one problem with progressive radio... We really don't need to be told what to think like the right wing does. I'm sure right wing radio has a much larger audience because of all the idiots that have to listen to know what they should be thinking.

Most people I know that are liberals will listen to the talk shows, but they don't go around using one person's talking points over and over. The people that listen to Rush, Hannity and the other morons will usually use what they say on their programs as "fact" when arguing a point. Think about it.

7. Fair and balanced
One of these days O'Liely will go down in flames and on that day I will celebrate with champagne. He calls himself a journalist but then is in obvous glee about the potential failure and loss of jobs that a network failing would do. What does he care with all his millions of dollars paid to him to spew out hate. He has tossed more hate in 1 day on his programs then AAR does in a year, and yet there are people still fooled by it

I don't get it.

Two asshat Reich-wing aging sports "gurus" buried in the 30's and Don "I carry a gun and hate you" Imus is number 6.

I didn't know Imus was still alive. I thought the MSNBC gig is best of repeats. Shows you how valid this idiotic list is.

11. I love the use of the word "guttersnipes". You've got two
choices of definition for that word...street urchin or low class person.

Well, I think all the hosts of Air America have homes and as for low class...seems to me like Bill has tallied more "Worst Person in the World" awards than any Air America host.

Anyone have Alan Colmes rating compared to say Stephenie Miller? Do people really listen to a show like Colmes over a show like Stephenie's in maret where they have a choice?

Miller's morning slot is very different than Colmes.

31. Whereas Colmes time slot says Faux doesn't expect anyone to listen to him,
...well, sure.

But the very different time slots don't force causal listeners to make a choice.

22. In Radio Business Terms, AAR Has Been Hugely Successful
Edited on Wed Mar-08-06 05:09 PM by Yavin4
Radio stations drop and/or change formats like underwear. It's extremely rare for any format to last six months, much less a year, much less three years. AAR has show remarkable resiliency even though their message may run contrary to some big national advertisers. You won't hear ads for WalMart on their station for example.

What's really interesting is how the right wing media takes such an obsessive interest in seeing that AAR fails. I wonder why is it so important to O'Reilly and Drudge to see it go under. Maybe the reason is that they don't want the radio program managers and GMs to see that liberal radio can get an audience which will threaten the conservative monopoly over the media.

Radio is an imitative business. What works in one market is duplicated quickly across the nation, and if AAR keeps building its audience then Drudge and O'Reilly may lose some income.

"As you know, conservative talk radio does have a few smear merchants who have been successful"

And you should know.

"By and large, Americans want to hear relevant topics discussed in intelligent ways on talk radio,"

Which is why more and more of them are tuning out your show....

"Fair and balanced works. Hatred does not. "

Again, why more and more tune out your show....

Right. Only the Americans who are interested in the truth. The rest would rather drink the Kool Aid and believe anything they are told by shrubbery. Life is so much easier when you are ignorant. Pity that.

It's a marketplace, Bill. Your ratings are falling, and you look like a mook. Sicking "security" on callers and threatening them really are signs of a person not in control of his business.
