Gallup: Bush disapproval rating lowest of any president since Nixon
Gallup: Bush disapproval rating lowest of any president since Nixon
RAW STORY
Published: March 8, 2006

More than 4 in 10 Americans strongly disapproving of the job George W. Bush is doing as president, according to the latest CNN/Gallup poll, the lowest of any president except Nixon in the waning months of his presidency. Just 40 percent of Americans believe Bush can manage the country effectively; Bush registers a 38% approval rating with a 60% disapproval rating.

When Americans were asked a follow-up of whether they strongly approve or disapprove of Bush, more than twice as many Americans say they strongly disapprove (44%) as say they strongly approve (20%) of Bush. The strong disapproval rating is the highest Gallup has measured for Bush by a percentage point, and is the highest for any president since Richard Nixon during the Watergate era.

Nixon is the only other president to register strong disapproval ratings above 40% in Gallup Polls. Nixon had a 48% strong disapproval rating in February 1974, and a 46% rating days before he resigned from office in August 1974. Gallup first asked about strength of approval during the Lyndon Johnson administration, and has asked it periodically for every president since.

4. Maybe it's a challenge to him now. Kinda like dancing the limbo,
"How low can you go?".

The reality is that his staff has probably not told him yet what his approval ratings are. I hear they are afraid to give him bad news and he doesn't read the papers, by his own admission.

10. I honestly believe you are right.
I don't think he has any idea. Just last week, he said something about how doing important things causes "consternation" or some such rot. I figured that they had decided they had to at least mention his approval rating was slipping since it's SO freakin' low. They probably said something like, "Uh, sir, there are two people in American who aren't Michael Moore who are a little upset about a couple of things and are, you know, starting to doubt a little that you're actually appointed by Jesus and all that. But, you know, that's only two out of MILLIONS!" And thus, the consternation remark was born.

8. I wonder if Shrub even knows about his poll numbers!
The way he pompously talks about his "political capital", the bizarre overreaching.

We know he doesn't read, and doesn't watch news and has everything explained to him by his advisers. Perhaps they simply have told him his poll numbers are fine.

How else can you explain this bizarro stuff?

12. Yes He Does
When he got back from his trip to south asia, he said he wasn't worried about them and that he thought he still had political capital.

Then, 2 days later, the REPUBLICANS IN THE HOUSE(!) turned on him over the ports deal, again! Now, they're making statements that the compromise is unacceptable and they are actively pursuing a veto proof majority. So much for that political capital, Georgie-boy!

14. Bush is too focused on his Yellow Rug of Optimism to worry about polls
or reality for that matter.

22. Out by August 2006.
That's what I've been predicting for over a year. As the public becomes more and more enraged, there will come a tipping point where the Pukes can no longer afford to keep Bushitler around. He's a serious liability for the elections.

to attain even lower polling numbers that will never be touched throughout the centuries. What a terrific legacy.

21. Yes -- the OP changed the title and article for some reason
Edited on Wed Mar-08-06 11:23 AM by theHandpuppet
See my post below.

Edited to add: I cannot recommend this thread until it is changed to accurately reflect the article and the numbers, for as it now stands it reads as the exact opposite of what the poll numbers reflect.

20. Actually his disapproval rating (60%) is HIGHEST since Nixon
It's his approval ratings which are lowest. The rawstory article actually reads:

Gallup: Bush disapproval rating highest of any president since Nixon
RAW STORY
Published: March 8, 2006

"More than 4 in 10 Americans strongly disapproving of the job George W. Bush is doing as president, according to the latest CNN/Gallup poll, the highest of any president except Nixon in the waning months of his presidency. Just 40 percent of Americans believe Bush can manage the country effectively; Bush registers a 38% approval rating with a 60% disapproval rating."

You have switched both the title and article to read as the exact opposite interpretation -- is there some reason for that?
