Did DeLay steal the election, or do his voters just love criminals?
How do you explain it? Tom DeLay won yesterday's primary in his district by 61%. Was this another DeLay election ripoff, or is his district packed with Kool-aid drinkers?

Yeah, he probably brings home a lot of pork for them from Washington, but nonetheless, there must be some point at which people's consciences start to squirm.

Anyone have any guesses, rationales, or inside knowledge as to why he won?

1. It was a Republican primary.
They tend to stick together. There were 40 or so percent that voted against him.

23. Texas GOP is very right wing
I would have been shocked to see Delay lose in this primary. The Texas GOP is very right wing and is in denial about the corruption issue. This was not that serious of a challenge to delay. His main opponent had limited advertising while Delay had a decent amount. I imagine that Delay outspent his opponents by a decent amount.

2. the first place i would want to look is if there is a paper trail
here in northeast oklahoma we have paper ballots scaned to count. I question that and the fact that it cost something like 7500 dollars a prescient to do a recount. Yes we need to get ahold of the voting process first and foremost/ without honest elections we have nothing but corruption.

3. Texas is full of either ignorant or crooked republicans. At least
in that district. But I suspect it's a statewide thing when it comes to the republican party.

4. I would like to know the back ground of it
Was it just GOP voting and how many voted from the lists of GOP voters. I also think that Curley of Boston got in while in jail and he was a Dem. I think if you bring in the pork it will get you in over good of country. Look at Steven of Ak.

8. just gop
I am a Texas Democrat. Therefore I voted for the candidates and propositions on the Democratic ballot. Texas Republicans have their own ballot/candidates/propositions

16. So 60% of GOP who voted voted for DeLay? Next
How many GOP voters who could voter, went to the polls.. I can recall leaving my pARTY AND JOINING ANOTHER PARTY SO i COULD VOTE IN THEIR ELECTION. In the regular election I just went back and voter how I wanted. I can not be the only person that does things like that. It is not always easy to see what goes on because DeLay always tells us he is right.

10. I, too, would like to see the proportion of Repubs that voted
I'm guessing that a lot of them stayed home. Only the truly wicked and motivated came out to support their crime kingpin.

I think that's why we keep hearing about the percentage and NOT the raw numbers.

6. His Winning Is a GOOD Thing!
Because he makes such an easy target when the real election comes around in November.

Don't be sorry he won, and don't worry about it. Would you rather have an "Honest" Repbulican on the ticket in November or Delay? Which will it be easier to beat?

The nation has awakened. Now its time for payback.

12. Maybe From Your Perspective
But from mine, our Dems don't seem able or willing to capitalize on all the flaws in the GOP. And I'm afraid it is just an indication of how many stupid voters there are out there who can hurt our chances of taking over Congress.

We need to convince those morons NOT to vote in November.

Nothing's changed since he first started winning handily. The charges only confirm what he's always been. Texs Republican votersd apparently like that.

22. Actually, his donations come from virtually everywhere in the US
BUT Sugar Land. He hasn't done JACK locally--no pork, no nothing. But now he's redistricted himself into NASA's backyard and gotten on some comittee that oversees NASA $$$ so they'll probably vote for him. (Think of it-- Rocket Scientists For DeLay"!)

He's considered a bit of an asshat locally.
