WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Dana Reeve, who won worldwide admiration for her devotion to her "Superman" husband, Christopher Reeve, through his decade of near-total paralysis, has died of lung cancer at the age of 44.

Reeve, a singer-actress who gave up some of her own career to be one of the nation's best-known caregivers, died late Monday at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Medical Center, said Kathy Lewis, president of the Christopher Reeve Foundation.

Reeve had succeeded her husband as chair of the foundation, which funded research into spinal-cord paralysis cures. She announced in August that, while she wasn't a smoker, she had been diagnosed with lung cancer.

1. How sad.
There seems to be some truth about the adage that people seem more likely to pass away once they've lost a spouse.

Rest in Peace.

2. You can't tell me that stress didn't affect that outcome.

4. Probably did. The immune system is adversely affected by
stress, BIGTIME. It's suppressed and that'sell known and proven.

(Site will not allow more copying. She wrote this last month and it doesn't sound good.)

"February 17, 2006

A couple of days ago I walked into my doctor’s office with the assistance of my husband and my son James. His ministry has so graciously provided someone to help him so that he can come and spend some time with Mom. I appreciate that more than they will ever know..."

Her cancer started in the colon and spread to the lungs. She also never smoked.

I'm so glad my colon test was negative. My husband is scheduled to have his scanned on March 16th. I had my mammograms done on March 5th. These are some of the most important tests patients can get.

In peace,

Radio_Lady

6. No, She doesn't sound good at all.
My MIL Died on Sunday from clear cell renal carcinoma and this sounds alot like she did the last few weeks of her life. Cancer us a terrible disease, just terrible. Personally, I believe that cases of lung cancer that occur seemingly out of nowhere like Dana Reeve's case are caused by contamination that mutates the normal cell behaviour and the functioning of the immune system.

8. Thank you Radio_lady
It's such a horrible, harsh and draining disease. The worst part of it is that the family is left devastated and afraid to think about if and/or when it'll revisit the family and who'll be next. The most difficult thing is that my FIL has recurrent prostate cancer and it was found on the dadfy my MIL diagnosis was confirmed. Terrible, just terrible for the families struck by this disease.
