Bush to Propose Line-Item Veto Legislation
Bush to Propose Line-Item Veto Legislation Sun Mar 5, 9:53 PM ET

WASHINGTON - President Bush plans to send proposed legislation to Congress on Monday that would allow him to control spending by vetoing specific items in larger bills, a Bush administration official said.

The president, who has not vetoed any legislation during five years in office, asked Congress in his State of the Union address to give him line-item veto power.

Bush plans to announce that the proposed bill is headed to Congress during his remarks at the morning swearing-in ceremony for the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the announcement has not been made.

Both Republican and Democratic presidents have sought the power to eliminate a single item in a spending or tax bill without killing the entire measure.

the Supreme Court during Clinton's 2nd term. I guess BabyBush thinks he can get it through the court since he's packed it with his cronies.

2. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Like he's vetoed anything yet!

A line-item veto could only provide MORE accountability for the administration, and that's exactly what W doesn't have. Let's see him step up and take a share of the EXISTING accountability first!

3. In the hands of a stable president, it;s a good idea, BUT
for *² to be able to pick and choose what's in and what's out....Um...not a good idea..

SCOTUS took it away from Clinton..let's see how Junior's Private Court feels about it..

5. Why a line-item veto when Bush can pick and choose anyway?
Makes absolutely not sense to give this asshole anymore latitude than he already has.

Bush's life is dedicated to the proposition that if Americans had less protection from elected, representative government it would be much better off.

8. If Congress gives him this, they might as well close up shop and head home
Control of the budget is the ONLY semblance of power Congress has left, and it's practically in tatters due to out of control spending for Bush's wars.

If they give him the line item veto, he will completely decimate public K-12 and higher education, child nutrition, veteran's benefits, and every other remaining shred of the social safety net.

11. Great no middle men but money right to the corp. and churches,.
They are wasting so much time in Congress as it is. Be less messy if we just keep Bush as our Sun King.
