1. They can close the deal. We can change any dammned contract

as we please. If we can ignore War Crimes acts, several Constitutional rights, etc., we can certainly bust out of a contract.

3. Court Order Necessary After Close
I thought I had read that the only way to overturn the deal once it closes, is by a court order. Congress won't be able to do a thing, even if they wanted to.

4. The early termination penalties are probably more than...
the value of the contract.

This is a lose/lose for the admin no matter the outcome.

This is a done deal.

5. I do not believe for ONE SECOND that there's no clause in that contract
that says we MUST continue it regardless of who buys it.

I agree it's a lose/lose for Bush though. YAY!

6. That is not what I said, elehhhhna.....
There is no clause regarding continuity, but you can bet the farm that there are stipulations galore regarding early termination.
That type of clause takes into account time lapsed vs. time remaining on contract. Then damages are tacked on.
It is called "buyout" and no one in the world would enter into a contract without a buyout clause.
If this is voided early on by a court, the penalties will be crushing and any other firm looking at Port management would probably have a very hard (and expensive) look before signing on.
