This doesn't belong here but here I am again I just had to call the police
because my son was again acting irrationally and threatening to harm himself, his brother is in tears and I am again at a loss as he ran out the door. I called our crisis intervention team and it seems that the police are the ones that need to respond in order to have him admitted fit an evaluation. Coffee nap was kind enough to point me in the direction of resources as he is a gifted child and seems too show signs of existential depression. I read here every day and find this site to be a solace for the dis informed and a good place for Canadians to see the other side that many just don't see. Sorry I am just venting and feeling at a complete loss right now, don't tell me to the lounge I have been their and it is fun but not at this time for me

1. Venting is good...
and at times like this, the police are your friends and will steer you in the right direction...

Good luck

2. You did the right thing.
It is awful, I know but your son needs help that you and your family do not have the expertise to provide, at least it seems so.

5. I second that. Take Care.
There is probably a support group for people who have family members with mental health issues
where you live. You don't have to be alone in this.
A lot of us here at DU are thinking of you. Please post again if you need to.

3. That has to be hard
Calling the police is the only quick way to get him in for evaluation. I hope that works out and he gets help and stabilizes.

Sometimes it really is beyond us, as much as we care they need more then we can offer. It is hard to go through. May it go well for all of you.

7. I hope you and your family can find peace
The reality is we can't deal with everything ourselves, even though we really want to.

Remember not to be too hard on yourself, what you're going through is emotionally draining and you'll need some time for you, too.

I'm sorry but keep the faith that things will get better.

9. I'm so sorry, for you and both of your sons

I truly wish you weren't having to deal with this awful situation. Good for you for being strong and making a difficult decision.
You are not alone; besides the people who answer your post, think of all the people who read your story and don't necessarily write anything but send you their very best wishes. You have my prayers and I will keep you in my thoughts.

11. I've worked in group homes w/kids 12-17. The homes were limited to six
clients per household and got regular visits from a psychologist. Parents were encouraged to pick up thier kids on the weekends for quality time.

I don't know what's available in Canada to fit your needs but the program I participted in was coordinated by the California dept. of Social Services.

I hope things work out for you and your family.

15. There will be better days
hold on to that. Mental illness is not a death sentence. Medications don't always do the trick at first, but keep at it. It's a crap shoot. Something WILL work. Get support. I know what I'm talking about.
