...so the RWer in the next office now says he's gonna vote for Hillary
in the primary & in the General Election (he takes it as a given that she'll be nominated). He's still
RW, and here's his logic:

Bush has made such a total disaster of everything that the next President will be totally unable to straighten anything out as all the Bush chickens come home to roost. Whoever is in office after Bush will appear to be the worst president in history. If a Dem has that position in 2008, it will destroy the Dem party for the next 40 years.

He acknowledges the Bush debacle, is enraged by the port deal, sees the war as a total fuckup (although he supported it when we went in), and understands the implications of what Bush has done to the national debt.

But he's still a Republican because he hates having the government suport all those blacks on welfare. He's also bought into the wedge issues--homosexuality (even though his daughter, with whom he maintains a good relationship, is a lesbian), guns, abortion.

I think the real reason he stays RW is that the Puggies, and Limbaugh in particular, feed his anger & give him his rage rush. He's addicted to his own cotrisol & epinephrine.

1. They said the same thing about Bill Clinton
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 04:25 PM by Tempest
That he would never get the economy moving by raising taxes.

And we all know how that turned out.

2. Whoever wins next time, or -- more precisely -- whoever . . .
Gets assigned the most electoral votes by Diebold, will have to run/govern on a platform of cleaning up the Bushean stables. They'll almost certainly be a one-termer (since the mess WILL be too big to clean up), but will probably be given credit for trying.

All this shit is going to stick to Bush, and you've got to know he'll generate lots more before his time in office is over.

8. That's a beautiful essay, and I thank you for the link.
However, there's no adrenaline/cortisol payoff in it, so it'll leave him cold.

12. Too bad...
I guess you can't reach anyone.

Of course, there's the option of coming up with a way to scare the crap out of him WHILE he's reading it. Then at least he'd get a kickstart to his heart somewhere in its vicinity.

:D

17. And ask him why welfare to blacks is bad but welfare to
the wealthy is good.

Remind him that the oil industry, big pharma, and the local sports franchise should not get our money to finance their businesses, yet free-market conservatives feel free to hand out our tax dollars to these guys.

4. Reminds me of a freeper who used to work in my office.
When Clinton became pres, he made a big deal about cashing out his stocks and 401k because Clinton would destroy the economy and stock market. He left our office (good riddance) during the Clinton years, so I never got to ask him how it turned out. :-)

5. I've had much the same feeling
Not that I'd vote for a Pug, but it has occurred to me that whoever has to clean up Lord Pissypants' mess is going to be vilified. Whoever it is will have to raise taxes and remove us from Iraq (assuming we're still there.)

I've often thought that would be a nice punishment for McCain for sticking by *asshat after the Swift Boat Liars did their doo-doo.

6. Like her or not
Hillary is just as smart if not smarter than her husband. It took a Clinton to clean up the Reagan/Bush mess. It will probably take another one to clean up Bush II.

7. So, by his logic...
...the country will just continue to spiral downward. If a Democrat wins in 2008 AND fails to clean up the mess by the Bush administration AND things get worse AND the Democratic party is destroyed AND the Republicans end up in power AGAIN then what exactly is it he is looking forward to? What does his "strategy" accomplish?

Well, he sorta accepts global warming
but says "Big deal--there've been huge climate changes in the past. Maybe this one will kill everyone off, but humans are just temporary anyway."

Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 04:39 PM by ourbluenation
How many americans are actually on welfare? Two bits says his answer is wrong, wrong, wrong. This is such a common thread running among non rich republicans - they don't want their hard earned taxes paying for all those welfare queens. Truth is - there arnen't that many people on welfare, proportionatly, and...most of those people are children.

13. I know that.
I've also compared the dollar value of corporate handouts to the welfare budget, but it doesn't matter to him.

16. I hear ya Jackpine - the DEMS should take out huge ads
that say it loud and clear - ONLY 2% OF AMERICANS ARE ON WELFARE AND THE MAJORITY OF THEM ARE KIDS. Most righties I know think it's 20%...no wonder they hate social programs!
