Bird flu and detention centers
OK, let's just put two and two together and make four. Bird flu threats in media on a pretty much weekly basis, getting our "minds" ready for the big outbreak...detention centers going up courtesy of a Halliburton subsidiary...

Pandemic plus detention centers equals lots of people out of the way of the Bushies as they prepare for war in Iran, stolen 2006 elections, and who knows what else?

1. Pandemic
If it really happens and nobody can predict when or if War will be unlikely because the amount of death and suffering will cripple human society world-wide for years. We'll be lucky to exit such a catastrophe with society intact.

2. I have absolutely no confidence that we will respond to this in a rational
way as long as the Republicans are in control. Those sons of bitches will take care of their own and the upper 1% and leave the rest of us stranded. You just wait and see.

4. I agree
That's precisely what they will do and are planning to do. The way they responded to Katrina should make everybody aware that these people donot believe in such a thing as community. They are preparing for they and their own to survive and the rest of us can go to hell. They see themselves as God's chosen and that such a pandemic will prove they are indeed God's elite. We'll see.

6. Right. It will be treated as a punishment from God and those that
died deserved it.

5. Not only will they leave us stranded,
they will find some way to blame us for our own stranding and then broadcast that spin all over national TV for months afterwards.

3. You're correct, this one is shaping up to be far worse than the 1918
pandemic, which only killed 2.5%-5% worldwide. It struck healthy young adults, though, and was enough to lower the life expectancy in the US by 10 full years. Key people in business and industry were struck and it produced a bumper crop of orphaned children at just the time there were fewer adults to care for them.

Even if the virus attenuates from the 70% death rate projected now to "only" 20% or so, it will take decades to recover from it, if we do at all.
