Administration proposes euthanasia for disabled vets
(UPS, Washington)Citing President Bush's promise to reduce the deficit by half, the administration today proposed to reduce spending on veterans' health care by identifying the most severely injured and medically costly veterans receiving care in Veterans Administration facilities. Veterans thus identified, whom the administration now labels "Terminal Organ Donors," will be harvested for usable body parts and then subjected to viability termination (VT). Any profits made from sale of the harvested organs will be placed in Federal General Revenues.

You know you have read excellent satire when you are left scratching your head and wondering, "Is this really possible?"

16. Heh, I learned the lesson in my College Writing class in high school.
It was Tucson, Arizona, in the early 1980s. My teacher took Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal, slightly modernized the language and grammar, redirected it to illegal Mexican immigrants, and attributed it as a leaked memo from the Reagan White House. He handed it out with strict instructions to read the whole thing before expressing an opinion; at the bottom was written a disclaimer.

That document, the reading of Swift's original, and several days of class discussion, was our lesson in the social importance of satire.

17. I know. I've written things thinking I was doing satire
and then had reality (or what what passes for it these days) outstrip me on a number of occasions.

21. Great news...
David S. Chu and others in the administration having been saying for years that these damn wounded veterans have been draining vital funds! I mean after all it's much easier to cover yourself in the blood of the dead and spout off about never forgetting their memory than to actually look at the managled lives and limbless veterans.
