US Ambassador tells Iraqis to save their country
US Ambassador tells Iraqis to save their country
by Joe in DC - 2/24/2006 09:19:00 AM

I'm sure the Iraqis appreciate being told to save their country by the ambassador of the country who destroyed their country:

The ambassador, Zalmay Khalilzad, made his remarks as sectarian fury in the streets appeared to ebb after two days of reprisals over the bombing of a major Shiite mosque. The violence prompted the most powerful Sunni Arab political group to suspend talks with Shiite and Kurdish politicians on forming a new government. "What we've seen in the past two days, the attack has had a major impact here, getting everyone's attention that Iraq is in danger," Mr. Khalilzad said in a conference call with reporters.

The country's leaders, he added, "must come together, they must compromise with each other to bring the people of Iraq together and save this country.".

1. Does their arrogance know no bounds?!?!?!
 Who, with a brain, didn't know this would be the end result of our invasion.

4. I'm sure this was all planned
Destroy and take all their oil and make it to where they're worse off. It's so sad. They were definitley planning this. From the talking heads, specifically Bill O'Reilly, are now talking about pulling out of Iraq and how they're "crazy" and everything. So they're planning SOMEThing in time for the 2006 midterms or directly afterwards.

2. Don't they understand.... I bet they do.
Disclaimer: the following contains varying amounts of sarcasm and relatively objective observation...

Don't they understand? If they would just smile (and OBEY) and stop blowing things up (presumably that would mean either convincing the unruly elements to behave or turning them in to our "intelligence" for military handling)... We'd promptly rebuild their country better than new (though with a few super-duper U.S. military bases)! What's a little self-respect, personal choice, manipulation and oppression compared to that? Self-determination and the ability to control one's own lives, government and country--surely they're overrated, "in their case" (imagine "in our case", some foreign power saying the same thing to us after crushing our military and deposing our government**; methinks they'd be facing an American insurgency (though we don't have nearly as many terrorist/insurgent networks in place to rely on for leading such a resistance movement--and we probably don't even have easy access to 380 tons of rdx/ctx 'plastic' explosives for IEDs)(it'd never happen, they'd have to get through our civilian military--and that'd be a real trick)). Funny how some Americans want to blame them for not accepting our occupation... they're the ones who also probably think we really would just pick up and leave once things have quieted down and we've rebuilt some basics.

In one way, though, if they wanted to be 'smart', they'd lay off and let us rebuild alot of stuff--and then mount a massive resistance/insurgency... Have their cake (rebuilt infrastructure/economy) and eat it too (have their own independence/freedom with us gone)(though plainly, they'd have to fight to "eat it"/have us gone).

**hmmm... maybe it's not such a bad thing after all (wink)? Just kidding--as bad as Bush/Republooneys is/are, at least they're our own fools... It would have to get one hell of alot worse (think America under Saddam)(and yeah, it probably will get significantly worse before it gets better) before such a solution would ever even be considerable. It's highly unlikely it would ever reach such a nearly infinitely intolerable condition as that and even then it's probably beyond the pale. It may be that if it gets that bad, if we can't free ourselves, we'd rather suffer that be "helped" by some other nation with underhanded motivations--even if they're promising to restore our Democracy (and we, unlike the IRAQIs, actually "want" our "Democracy" (specifically, our "Constitutional Republic"--thank you very much).

Still, it's strange just what an incredible relief it is just to imagine being free of the current Republi-fascist leadership and President Cuckoo-Banannas. Even so, no one would want to jump from the frying pan into the heart of the sun (ie. having a foreign occupation "restore" our democracy, "their way" with no guarantee they'll leave).

So, yeah, we have a lot of room to talk--tell them to fix their own problems (the ones they wouldn't have but for us). Of course, but for us, they'd still be dealing with the Hussein family (while we have to deal with the Bush family; probably the better of the two choices--a case of the lesser of two evils).

3. Oh good grief!
This is simply amazing. The neocons attack them, destroy everything and now they're expecting them to clean it up when we're still there destroying. I remember at the beginning of the year all of the leaders from Christian to Muslim came together and (lawmakers) and told occupying forces to get out. Looks like they're going to have to take a lesson from our history when we had to fight the British for our independence.

5. Is English the universal language of Iraq?
Because yesterday when I saw the clip on the news about this, the Ambassador was speaking in English while standing in front of both the American and Iraqi flags. All that said to me is that the 'message' was for Americans to hear.
