Rasmussen: 50% of Americans say the President did not break the law.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/2006/January%20Dailies/Security%20v%20Liberty.htm

<snip>

Thirty-three percent (33%) of Americans believe that President Bush broke the law by authorizing the National Security Agency (NSA) program that burst onto the news last month. That's very similar to the number who believe the President should be impeached and removed from office.

Fifty percent (50%) of Americans say the President did not break the law.

This result is also consistent with earlier data showing that just 26% believe that President Bush is the first to authorize a program allowing the NSA to intercept phone calls between suspected terrorists and U.S. citizens.

Fifty-two percent (52%) of Democrats believe the President broke the law. Just 15% of Republicans agree. As for those not affiliated with either major party, 33% say the President broke the law. Forty-six percent (46%) say he did not.

By a 46% to 21% margin, liberals say the courts are too concerned with national security. By a 42% to 13% margin, conservatives believe the courts are too concerned with individual liberties.

Considering BushCo now quotes Rasmussen polls, all I can say is: :eyes:

1. As more information comes out those numbers will decline
the real headline should be 50% of the American people think their president did commit a crime or are not sure.

3. 98% of America unqualified to determine if President broke the law.
This poll is meaningless unless it's a poll of lawyers and judges.

4. I didn't see what the ACTUAL question in the poll was and,
without that info, if the question didn't specify spying on Americans without a warrant, it is meaningless, imo.

5. Is this the 50% that does not vote? Just wondering?
We know that at least 22% of the 50% who do vote are complete idiots.

6. Since this whole scandal has surfaced, Rasmussen....
has been spinning like a top. Or is it Harris?

Which one had the "outlier" approval poll recently? You know...the 47% one.

7. It doesn't matter what any percentage of Americans "believe"
The only thing that matters is what the Constitution and the laws say.

How stupid do they think we are anyway?

8. 50% are very naive.
It will probably take the revelation of spying on Kerry or equivalent to change their minds. Maybe.

16. It's the same ~50% who voted for Bush in the first place
It will probably take the revelation of spying on Kerry or equivalent to change their minds. Maybe.

No, that would not change their minds.

11. People tend to believe what they are told
What their family believes, what their neighbor believes. It doesn't mean it's factual..but that's exactly what this admin counts on. Disinformation and no information. And let me state the obvious because I get worked up on this one: Just because say, 60% of the American people think say Black or Gays or Women don't deserve equal rights, and that maybe we should torture them too if they don't OBEY..doesn't make it RIGHT, LEGAL, CONSTITITUNAL, MORAL or anything else!!!

The masses are idiots and can't be trusted with anything. Look at history. Is this country going to be run on mob rule? Okay dokey.

13. I have always thought..
that 50% of Americans have no brains... :-)

but really, let's poll people who are familiar with the issues or atleast get a count of how many people are familiar or not familiar with what is going on. Many people have other things going on to follow what's going on with our government, many people don't care. (That's real scary huh!?)

14. I wonder how many of the 50% know which amendment...
... * is accused of violating, let alone the specific law. This is a completely invalid question to ask anyone who is not lawyer or a judge. It would be like asking the man on the street if HMO's keep him from treating his patients how he sees fit.

15. Bushco quotes Rasmussen polls??
They're always saying they don't pay attention to polls. Memo to bush: Which is it, dumbass??You can't have it both ways!! :eyes:

And I would bet that the 50% who say Bush didn't break the law haven't read even ONE article analyzing the legal points involved in this little enterprise. Reading a Faux News transcript doesn't count.

18. Funny thing about breaking the law, though
If you broke the law, it's broken regardless of whether people say it is or not.

It's like saying, "50% of people believe there is no gravity and the earth simply sucks." Wishing won't make it so.

19. While not perfect it is progress.
In the link posted in reply 17 or 18 it was 64%. So the truth is coming out, and the longer it stays in the media the more that will decrease. Some people just need time for things to sink in.

Keep in mind that more information will become public in the next 60 days. That 50% will drop to 35% by late spring.
