The only "EXPERT" who matters in the PORTS FIASCO....
... the average goofball on Main Street.
He/she gets it: "He's going to turn the ports
over to the country where two of the 9/11 guys
came from?"

1. Olbermann had it right...
this is a 'gut' issue, not a 'facts' issue. Like Schiavo. It either smells funny to you, or it doesn't.

10. exactly
The repugs have been very adept at creating and framing "gut" issues while the Democrats have tried to use reasoning and arguments. While reasoning and arguments make better policy, "gut" issues win votes. "Protect marriage" "support the troops" "tax and spend" are all examples that have been successful for repugs - all they have to do is create a false dichotomy by using one of those phrases and any argument after that means you want to "undermine marriage", you don't support the troops, and yes, you do plan on taxing and spending. It's like they say: just make an accusation and make the other guy spend time and money trying to seize back control of the argument.

3. What's interesting is how we can go from
bemoaning the stupid "sheeple" to lauding them for their wisdom and ability to cut through bullshit so quickly.

Kind of like how Rush can call the New York Times treasonous and evil and then pull out a Times Article to underline a point he wants to make.

4. Hey, I said "average goofball"!
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 11:15 AM by A-Schwarzenegger
That's some lauding.
Still, ... it's sweet when the scales fall
from the goofballs' eyes. They can just see terrorists
clambering all over those freighters filled with semi
trucks full of nuckyouliar bombs from the UEA or the EAU or
wherever. And GEORGE W. Bush Approved it! And still stands
by it to the bitter end (or next week, whichever comes first)!
YEE-HAW!

5. Did anyone see that idiot, David Brooks...
...on The News Hour with Jim Lehrer? Brooks supposedly thinks that the whole thing will just "blow over". He was trying to act as though it's all no big deal and by way of trying to convince us of this he goes on about how this port deal was processed by a bunch of "technocrats" who do these kinds of deals for a living. If I understood Brooks correctly--and I'm afraid that I might have--he was saying that these guys operate with a kind of "tunnel vision" (Brooks's words) and that they just went through this deal like they'd go through any other and that the possible national security implications didn't weigh on them enough for them to kick the issue farther up the chain of command. I'm not sure what was supposed to be satisfying about this explanation. It sounded to me as though he was saying that when the end comes it will be because some paper pusher was just going about business-as-usual. But maybe that's just me. I can't stand David Brooks.

7. And one wonderful aspect of this mess
is that the harder they spoin the more the peoples
know it's bullshit. The spinners are trying to wipe
the shit off their shoes with their bare hands.

8. It is just your normal bankruptsy sale...
no need to invade us or occupy us with force, just buy us outright. A good deal...no shots fired and anyone can have our country for a price.
