it is not the law that reigns in texas. it is who (or is it whom) you know
that counts in texas, and that is why dick cheney is not going to be charged with shooting Mr. W.

1. It's always been that way, I think
look at the poor schnooks that were convicted of selling drugs in Dallas when it was really rogue cops doing it.

2. In much of this state, people are very protective of the little Baby Bush
Not so in Travis County (Austin), but out in the rural red counties Bush has a standing that is somewhere near that of Jesus Christ with many of the local folk.

5. change texas to america
and I will agree with you 100%

And that is the way it has always been in this country.

Harry Thaw knew this.
Bill Janklow knows this.

Cheney and Bush know this.

All the so-called upper class elite know that is the way america works and they like it just fine.

6. And when a Texan "is sorry," watch out!
Whittington made a fool of Cheney today. Who's the bigger man: Whittington or Cheney?

Cheney's little FOX mea culpa was all about Cheney's feelings.

Whittington's statement was all about "Poor Dick."

Who's the smart one?

For more native Texan insight into the Cheney* shooting incident, check my blog (link in my sigline).

7. Houston
I remember (after first being transferred to Houston in '82) one of my co-workers telling me that Houston is governed by 'movers and shakers,' a vast corporatocracy where certain good ol' boys govern, ostensibly for the good of all. The last time I flew though Houston (in the late '90's, I believe), they still had publicity photos of these 'movers and shakers' on display at the airport. I think Bush has taken this legacy to the national arena since becoming President.

novel...though he is from mississippi...some of that twisted, amoral characters, seem to pepper tha southern landscape.
