Is Limbaugh lying out of his ass again?
He just mentioned DU and a few others in the blogosphere. He was talking about Paul Hackett and Harry Reid's part in getting him to withdraw. He said there were photos of Hackett involved with "war crimes"...Somebody gave Reid the photos?? Anybody heard this crap?

10. Bingo!
Thinking exactly the same thought

on a more serious note:

Why would Limbaugh bother to lie when Hackett has already withdrawn?

Answer: Because Hackett is a FUTURE threat to the GOP and Limbaugh is laying the base for a rumor that will be dregged up if Hackett ever does run for anything again...

WOOPS! JUST HAD A :wtf: MOMENT

Hackett is an IRAQ WAR VET If Limbaugh is spreading that Reid has pics of Hackett doing "war Crimes" in Iraq...then it makes Rush's "No war crimes were ever committed in Iraq" meme another LIE!!

40. Here it is:
http://www.motherjones.com/news/update/2006/02/hackett_drops_out.html

snip

Swift boats soon appeared on the horizon. A whisper campaign started: Hackett committed war crimes in Iraq—and there were photos. “The first rumor that I heard was probably a month and a half ago,” Dave Lane, chair of the Clermont County Democratic Party, told me the day after Hackett pulled out of the race. “I heard it more than once that someone was distributing photos of Paul in Iraq with Iraqi war casualties with captions or suggestions that Paul had committed some sort of atrocities. Who did it? I have no idea. It sounds like a Republican M.O. to me, but I have no proof of that. But if it was someone on my side of the fence, I have a real problem with that. I have a hard time believing that a Democrat would do that to another Democrat.”

In late November, Hackett got a call from Sen. Harry Reid. “I hear there’s a photo of you mistreating bodies in Iraq. Is it true?” demanded the Senate minority leader. “No sir,” replied Hackett. To drive home his point, Hackett traveled to Washington to show Reid’s staff the photo in question. Hackett declined to send me the photo, but he insists that it shows another Marine—not Hackett—unloading a sealed body bag from a truck. “There was nothing disrespectful or unprofessional,” he insists. “That was a photo of a Marine doing his job. If you don’t like what they’re doing, don’t send Marines into war.”

A staffer in Reid’s office confirmed that Hackett had showed them several photos. “The ones I saw were part of a diary he kept while serving in Iraq and were in no way compromising. The one picture in question depicted Marines doing their work on what looked like a scorching day in Iraq,” said the aide.

I've neither seen nor heard of these photos. If they're out there, I think that we would have at least heard about them by now, from a much more reliable source than Oxy-rush.

It was just an ugly lie, spread to smear him.

Sadly, it was likely started by DEMOCRATS who wanted him out of the race.

11. There is photo of a body bag on a truck being unloaded - some claim
Hackett is in the photo

The photo shows no war crime.

Hacket may or may not be in photo.

Hacket did show such a photo to Ried who asked what it was about and mentioned the right wing lies re war crimes - and Hacket said they were right wing lies re war crimes.

If my memory was better I'd recall if Hacket said he was in photo - but my memory isn't - and I do not remember.

21. It's not clear whether Dems or GOP moles started the whisper
campaign about the war crimes. I've even seen suggestions that it was people working for Brown.

Hackett did say there were some pictures and explained exactly what was going on. He was assigned to retrieve bodies in Fallujah. There was nothing wrong with what he was doing; no "crimes" in any way.

I suspect Reid or someone else 'advised' him that a picture's worth a thousand words, especially in this nasty business of politics.

As to Rush... :puke: If it's something he can use to further demonize "liberals", he'll give it at least a three hour highlight.

31. That makes sense!
On Ed Schultz show, he (Ed) mentioned it during his opening on Tuesday's show. He was interviewing Hackett at the end of the third hour that day. He didn't get into great detail with him about it and Hackett seemed ...'uncomfortable'.

A day or two later, a caller said he'd gotten into a fight about it with a Brown campaign volunteer--back in October. That's why it's hasn't been clear who started it.

Sounds like Schmidt tactics and Brown's people just picked up the ball and started it rolling again.

22. Get used to it people, the dems were right to ask him to step aside
remember what the rw would spin if the pics did show him body bagging Iraqis. Don't forget theres still swift boaters out there that we know nothing about that would have used that pic to tie any vet of Iraq as a torturer. Sorry to say but we will be seeing a lot of dirty tricks coming in the next few month's, give Ried some credit for seeing the potential problem before the pukes could use it against Hacket.Remember the pukes even swift boated one of their own. Sure the guy might have made a fine congress critter, but be real and look at what the pukes are willing to do to win. Any dem that runs will have to be beyond reproach and any kind of scandal.

Its not the pic or activitie involed its what the puke spin machine can make it out as to use it against them. Remember the famous John Kerry with Jane Fonda pic? Come on use some sense, its not a matter of truth or honesty when it comes to puke propaganda. WMD's,9/11 Saddam, evil empire ect ect ect. ((There is a concerted effort to paint the Dem party as divided and fighting amongst itself. And, you know the RW Noise Machine operates like this: Rove to RW blogs & RW talk radio. IMHO, we must be informed about this strategy, keep it in mind, and not let them manipulate us the way that I have recently on the DU board. Please go to

and read the WHOLE POST. You will soon see the strategy and know why Rush made the comments he did today.

The Democrats' Coming Civil War
By: Blanton · Section: Democrats

There is a growing sense of restlessness on Capitol Hill and it is not the majority that has this sense. With Democrats potentially on the cusp of making a significant dent in the Republican majority, tensions that have been well below the surface are starting to spill out and may soon boil over into a Democrat civil war.

Various people on Capitol Hill tell me that the Democrats are struggling to keep their internal disputes from boiling over. They all lay the blame at Howard Dean and the Democrat leadership on Capitol Hill failing to get along. Right now, individuals loyal to Howard Dean are compiling dossiers on embattled Senate minority leader Harry Reid and House minority leader Nancy Pelosi. Couple these potential trouble spots with the pending William Jefferson plea bargain, Democrat netroots leader Kos' perceived selling out to the establishment through his failure to engage the DLC and failure to back Hackett in Ohio, and the failure of the minority to rally around one set of talking points and you have the a higher chance of a Democrat civil war than an Iraqi civil war.

Howard Dean has compiled a solid file on the corruption of Harry Reid. For years Reid has operated as the quintessential back room politician, trading favors and legislation for money and choice positions for his children at top firms with high salaries. Reid's ties to Jack Abramoff are more extensive than some of the Republicans allegedly tied to Abramoff. Dean himself said that any Democrat doing favors for Abramoff's clients would be a "big problem." He knew before he said it that Reid had done so.

Nancy Pelosi's husband is rumored to be living large off her name and power. Individuals out to bring down Pelosi, viewing her as a threat to potential Democrat gains, are, as I write, digging through records around Washington trying to pull a Harry Reid on Nancy Pelosi -- they'll try to tie her to legislation and lobbyists via her husband's connections and clients.

snip, but go read it

Dean wants to keep quiet on Pelosi and Reid to leverage his own position in the party. Democrats, including Pelosi and Reid, who blame Dean for a lack of fundraising prowess are out to get him. The competing dynamic had led to détente beween the parties. But House Democrats convinced that Pelosi is more of a liability than an asset are plotting to oust her on the information Dean has. Netroots, starting to bristle under what they perceive as growing ties between Kos and an out of touch establishment, want revenge for Alito. A mixture of netroots activists and establishment figures are waking up to the fact that the Republicans have the same dossier on the Democrats that Dean does and, should the Democrats keep beating the corruption drum, Republicans will begin beating the Democrats over the head with it. William Jeffer
