I had no press person with me????

---snip---
Regarding the more than 20 hours it took for the incident to be reported, Cheney told Hume, “Accuracy was enormously important. I had no press person with me.”

======

anyone else find this excuse weak? They obviously had access to a telephone. Couldn't Cheney have called his "press person"? He did managed to call Andy Card/ karl Rove -- and he can't find a press person?

for crying out loud -- he's the most powerful vice-president we've ever had and he can't take a poop without a press person present?

so basically for the past 4 days he hunkered in his bunker because because he had no press person.... well, he better have a press person attached to his belly button if/when there is a major natural disaster because otherwise he wouldn't know what the hell to do...

1. The whole explanation is weak, Cheney's weak
the republican party is weak. The lies just keep coming and some people just keep on buying it. :shrug:

3. Yeah, it's BS. He had the SS and likely had private secure telecom
links with his office and the WH. They drag people out of bed in the middle of the night when they need to, even on weekends. The work and the press release would have been done from DC anyway. And why would Dick be all that concerned about "accuracy?" He was there. He knows precisely what happened. It wasn't like they needed a research team to determine what happened.

Besides, wasn't it reported that Cheney and Armstrong did discuss with the folks back in DC what was going to be said publicly and how the story would be released to the media? Distance didn't seem to hinder them for that.

The delay in making an announcement was no doubt a combination of waiting to see how Whittington's condition would play out and deciding on the line they would eventually give to the media. Crisis management, damage control and spin. Which apparently they are not at all good at, if this is the best they can do. And after all that delay, the result was an "eyewitness" who wasn't at the scene of the shooting and saw nothing of the incident except SS detail running after it happened, dialed up the local newspaper. with which her family has had a long and congenial relationship, to give her "eyewitness" account. The story would hit the AP wires precisely as they had shaped it.

As Randi Rhodes says, telling the truth takes only seconds. They needed almost a full day before they released their story.

5. So if we commit crimes, we need not report them....
....because we don't have a press person with us?

6. Bullshit on one level damning on another.
Certainly he could have picked up the phone, and he undoubtedly did. However, just what sort of private get-away was this? None of his staff other than the ambulance that seems to be permanently attached to him? His soon to be faceless buddy, two women, and Cheney. Hmmm...

Isn't anyone in Washington the least bit curious about this?
