My father is voting against his best interest
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 05:09 PM by SammyBlue
My father is an elite tax accountant. Last year, he pulled in over $300,000 a year. My mother and I are teachers. She pulled in $41,000, I pulled in $32,000.

My father is voting against his best interest and working against his best interest. Right now, my father is voting Democratic. In fact, the last Republican he voted for was Charlie Gidall, who ran against Jim Buckley in the NY Senate. MY father should vote Republican. My mother should too. They are in the upper 10% that the Republicans love. But they vote against their own interests. They vote for people who want to raise their taxes. In fact, my father advocates raising his taxes. He wants the Government to raise his taxes.

I ask him about this (keep in mind, my father is a disaffected Democrat). He looks at me and says it honestly. "I think about more than myself. This country gave me the opportunity to own my airplane, my half million dollar home, my cars. . .I have my success because of my ability and what country I live in. Why should I deny that to others? I'm lucky." Doesn't that sum it up right there? Country before self. Humanity before Human Me!

My father is the tax researcher for a man who is REAL Democrat, a veteran and a strong Democrat running for Congress. My father, since 1984 (Geraldine Ferrero, who my father knows) hasn't cared enough to support a candidate. Now, my father is working tirelessly to elect a man who's position on taxation is "we need to raise taxes because the point of no return on our national debt is getting closer and closer." My father is tirelessly working against his best interest.

My father and I have butt heads on numerous occasions. My father and I are working to elect a REAL Democrat. I am working for a candidate that will push to raise his taxes and shrink an inheritance than my brother and I will most likely get. He's 55 this year in August. He wants to leave something more to my brother and me: A functioning country.

If there is a REAL Democrat running in your district or state. . .support them! My father's candidate is running against a Media Queen and a DLC Puppet in the CD #8 of Arizona. Support all Democrats who are REAL Democrat. . .even if they aren't in your district. Our Candidate will make decisions that will affect your lives too. If you find a real Democrat, support them. . .even if it's against your best interests!

3. My mother has expressed similar sentiments...to me, they are
both heroes and patriots. You should be proud of your dad and yourself! Thank both of you for working to make this country great again.

4. Kudos for your father, but it's not against his best interests....
... to support a progressive approach to government. It just depends on how one defines "best interests" and over what timeframe one evaluates the metrics. Conservative, bust-out policies are not in anyone's long-term best interests.

7. sounds like the kind of self interest he -- and you -- are rejecting
is the irrational, short-sighted variety. Looks like he, and you, have considered what kind of country you want to live in and are willing to pay the cost. That's a form of self interest that conceives of values that go beyond one's personal bank balance.

8. This country has always done well under progressive leadership
and has always faltered under conservative rule. Sometimes the name of the party changes, but the basic philosophy remains.

Progressive/Liberal = Good times
Conservative/regressive = Hard times

Simple isn't it?

11. my husband and i vote against personal interest, i guess, maybe, not
really and let me tell you why your fatehr is not voting against his interest.

(lots of dems are voting against their interest per you definition)

because,.....

when we are a healthy nation it benefits us individually far and beyond what a tax break will personally financially give us
