Gov. Dean issues new statement on Hackett/Brown
Here's a statement the DNC just released from chairman Howard Dean. It differs somewhat markedly from what the Dr./ex-Gov. said last night, although it does appear to be an acknowledgment of the anger in some activist quarters at efforts by some Dem leaders like Rep. Rahm Emanuel to push Hackett out of the race.

Dean: "I admire Paul Hackett<.> done a lot for the country and stood up for America and our democratic values. I consider him a great friend and I sincerely hope he will remain active in Democratic politics. The Democratic Party was very lucky to have two outstanding candidates in the race for Senate in Ohio."

"Now that the possibility of a bitter primary that inadvertently benefits a republican incumbent is behind us, I want to urge everyone to come together in support of Sherrod Brown. Everyone who knows Sherrod knows that he has been a strong advocate for Ohio's working families in Congress, and will continue to stand up for them in the U.S. Senate. Ohio voters also know that they can count on Sherrod Brown to fight the Republican culture of corruption that Mike DeWine is a part of, and refocus our government on creating jobs that stay in Ohio, improving access to health care for all Americans, and promoting a strong public education system that restores opportunity and optimism."

4. Make that two!
:toast:

Avoiding "the possibility of a bitter primary that inadvertently benefits a republican" in favor of a true Progressive is worth raising a frosty mug.

:hi: mol!

2. He never did criticize Brown at all. Just had his say...
about people getting candidates out willy nilly in the primary.

So it is not that different from what he said in Miami.

3. that's leadership
I never liked all the McAuliffe bashing, but I have to say a statement like this has a lot more credibility coming from Howard Dean compared with coming from Terry.

9. Well, I am glad he had his say yesterday. He should have said it.
It works both ways, you know. He has a right to speak out about injustice, and I am glad he did.

I am glad Jim Dean had some righteous anger as well.

It was said yesterday, glad it was said. Now he can pacify, but glad he said it.

10. *sigh* I apparently missed more than I thought while on
a little mini-vacation. Is Hackett out of the Senate race? If so, I think I'm just about done donating to politicians. I have yet to give money to anyone who has gone the distance. Dammit!

14. I know how you feel. But after all, it's not about our people...
...going the distance. It's about our values going the distance. And by supporting people who share our values - no matter their likelihood of their success - we're helping to make that happen.

11. Oh, well, all righty then - who cares about Hacket? Party line - lock step
If Dean sez it, it must be so :sarcasm:
I am not so easily appeased.
Haven't heard this Brown guy speak for me. Not once.

12. Raise your hand if you thought.....
that a statement like that would not be forthcoming. Hands?

But he had his say, Jim had his say, yesterday.

13. To me - it shows how little power DNC chair has -DLC simply pulled him in
to agree with what they wanted. What Dean said the first time was the right reaction unless he found out something new that wasn't disclosed.

15. I disagree
Howard HAD to make this statement because:

A. If he had protested it, the meme "The Dems are Divided" would be on the wires within minutes.

B. Even if the party IS divided, Dean cannot make it appear anything but UNITED.

c. No matter how angry the activists are (and Dean may be as well) he MUST put a "smiley-face" on it for general public consumption.

20. I know how you feel
at some point it will be worth it to

as the old 60's song Tabacco Road said:

Get Some Dynamite
and a crane

blow it up
start all over again

for instance...if these SOBs manage to engineer another defeat in '06, we'll have nothing left to lose.....

21. And I don't even think it's an "if" - just a when. You KNOW they'll pull
some Terror stunt - you just KNOW IT. Then whatever they do to steal the elections will be justified by the Nazi media saying, "people just trust Republicans more".

18. Don't care
about new statement. I'm still disgusted with the party leaders and will NOT be assuaged that easily. We need REAL DEMS like Hackett who don't fall into lockstep when the leadership leans on them. Kinda reminds me of certain Repug methods: "If you don't support us, you hate America."

19. I adore Howard, but I sure don't envy him.
"The Democratic Party was very lucky to have two outstanding candidates in the race for Senate in Ohio." was EXACTLY what elected Democrats from DC and the state of Ohio should have been saying from day one! (Listen up Schumer, Reid, and Rahm!!! :grr: )

I'm pissed that Immanuel is doing the same thing here in Illinois between Cegelis and Duckworth. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Rahm should put his dollars here in DuPage and break the corrupt GOP that breeds Cons!!!! Not to mention the District next door to give Hastert some stiff competition! :nuke:
