Wait until more evidence seeps out. Here's a fresh tidbit: Late Tuesday, the Secret Service related that the shooting actually took place at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, 20 minutes later than previously stated--and therefore, right up against sunset, which came four minutes later.
</snip>

So he was out later than what he said.... on edit, looked up the Texas Parks and Wildlife regulations that show that it's legal to shoot one half hour after sunset http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/hunt/general/

Still have to wonder why the discrepancy in the announced time versus the time the shooting actually took place.

5. According to Texas hunting rules and regulations:
Legal shooting hours for all game animals and nonmigratory game birds: from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

6. I thought sunset was 6:20?
My Large Brother-in-Law (he insists on this appelation) sent me this when we still believed shooting time was 5:30.

According to the calculator at
<http://www.csgnetwork.com/sunriseset.html>, sunset in Kenedy
County last Saturday was at 6:20pm local time, about 50 minutes
after reported time of the shooting. That's based on the
center point of the county at 26°55' N, 97°40' W, according to
<http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/KK/hck4.html>.

8. Then how could Armstrong see the shooting from a car, as she claimed?
Her story is extremely fishy. One minute she says that she saw the shooting from the car, then she says she thought Cheney had a heart attack, then we find out they shooting was pretty much after dusk... which, unless the car was right there with them, she couldn't have seen anything. What are they hiding?

19. She didn't see the shooting.
She said yesterday that she saw the security detail running and followed them, thinking Darth had had a heart attack. That completely contradicted what she'd said previously.

The 'eyewitness' didn't see a thing.

This whole story of Darth's reeks.

9. He did everything wrong, I gather.
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 01:33 PM by mwb970
Shooting at dusk.
No dogs.
3-gun line.
Shooting low birds.
Losing track of companions.
Turning and firing.
Missing license stamp.
Probably drinking.

Add in that he was shooting tame, cage-raised quail with their wings disabled who had been put there for him to drive up to in his luxury car and kill.

Then you can add turning away police interrogators, having a nice dinner instead of staying at the hospital, letting his lobbyist friend "leak" the news to a small local paper, not notifying his "boss", not commenting publicly for days afterward...

And this is the "sure, steady hand" that was going to make having an inexperienced moron for president be OK?

Edit: additional complaints.

12. Though it was legal to hunt at that time....
There was a reason for the initial discrepancy.
When something happens like this I'm sure they bring in a "fixer" who surveys the situation and OKs all aspects of the release.

18. do hunters normally hunt that late?
If so, and he had been drinking since lunch, he must have been hammered. No wonder he waited 14 hours. I wonder how hammered Whittington was?
