Food crisis looms in African Horn (BBC)

International aid agencies are warning of a growing humanitarian crisis caused by the drought in the Horn of Africa.

The UN estimates that over 17m people in Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Eritrea, Tanzania and Burundi will require food assistance for the next six months.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has begun emergency relief to 500,000 people in southern Somalia.

The ICRC believes {the drought} is the worst in a decade - grazing land and cereal production have been decimated, food and water shortages are acute.

2. whenever I read an article like this from, say, the BBC or . . .

the Guardian or other non-U.S. news sources, I become more and more amazed (and angry) about all of the REAL news that our corporate media just completely ignores every single day . . . and usually more than once . . .

calling what we have in this country the "Free Press" is just one more piece of horse pucky from our ruling class . . .
